This place is cozy and comfortable. The drive way is a bit intimidating but nothing 4 wheel drive can’t handle. The amenities provided are in good working order and easy to find. It is very close to the park and has great recommendations for where to eat and things to do. It might be a small town but it has big fun. This place might not have Internet but makes up for with a library or books and films. I’m looking forward to going back and giving the river rafting a shot.
Great Property in a Great Location!! Located right across the street Cantrell’s Rafting / Bar, it’s the perfect place to stay for a rafting trip and only a couple minute drive from downtown.
The property is completely secluded by the surrounding hills and trees. Plenty of space to enjoy outdoor activities with a fire pit and large patio area.
Went with 5 guys and had plenty of space to relax and sleep.
People were not joking about the AWD you'll need to get up the hill. We had to keep two vehicles parked down at Cantrell’s that couldn’t make the climb.
The place was clean, and had all the supplies and amenities for a comfortable stay.
Perfect spot for a West Virginia Trip!
Such a great location and the cabin is super nice and has everything youd want. Location is amazing. Like the ritz for paddlers/climbers etc. Right across from Cantrel for anyone using a guided trip and close to everything in the NRG and Gauley areas. SYOTR
Fully equipped kitchen, peaceful, quiet, nice wooded area, super clean and tidy. The driveway is extremely steep and I couldn't get up it in my AWD RAV-4, but there was other parking available nearby.

The approach left alot to be desired. The driveway to the house was very dangerous and the house looked abandoned. The weeds were hip high and all over the walkways. Didn't look at all like the pictures on VRBO. Bring your own towels and toilet paper. The area is nice and there is much to do.
Great location . Tons to do.secluded quiet house on top of a hill in a wooded area. Really nice.

Nice cabin
Nice and clean cabin in a good spot for climbing or rafting. Close to town. Don’t underestimate the steepness of the driveway - you will need AWD.

Disappointed
We rented this house specifically for the two full bathrooms to accommodate the two couples’ differing morning routines. The first morning the upstairs shower would not turn off—at all—it remained fully on. We notified John Taylor immediately. He thanked us for letting him know, indicating that not everyone would do that. A handyman was sent out. He turned the main water valve off, but couldn’t fix the problem. A plumber was there at 7 pm after we returned from our day—inconvenient. He was only able to turn the shower off, but not fix it then, indicating it was installed incorrectly and therefore would be a time-consuming fix. We were patient and kind throughout this ordeal. All four people had to use the first floor shower the next morning, waking one guest far earlier than planned. The upstairs couple had to pack up all their shower needs to use downstairs. The downstairs couple had to use the upstairs toilet and sink while the upstairs couple were using the downstairs shower. See the aggravation?
After returning home, we asked John for a 20% discount since we didn’t have use of the two full bathrooms we had paid for. He refused, but offered us the same discount on a future visit. Why would we return when you didn’t do right by us the first time? That’s just poor business sense! We understand that it wasn’t John’s fault and that he TRIED to fix it, but when a business owner is unable to deliver his product as advertised, an adjustment in price should be offered.
We had a very nice stay and the house is close to many fun adventures. The home was clean, had plenty of room for us, and had many of the things we needed. The outside area needed a little more attention, had to do a little clean up from the last visitors. The owner is super easy to work with and gave us lots of wonderful ideas of places to hike and eat! We will be back in a few years.

End of summer
Location to the white water rafting was great. Cantrells white water was amazing. Our guide, Terry was also amazing. Interior of cabin was great. Exterior was overgrown, gutters were full of growing trees and when it rained it looked like a waterfall around the house. Plenty of large logs to burn in the outdoor fire pit, but no ax or log splitter to split the logs into burnable size. Empty beer bottles and cans left from previous renters and cigarette butts all over the outside property. Overall, I would rent this cabin again simply due to the location to rafting but would like to see a better maintenance team used for property and maintain the amazing landscape.
My wife and I took our son and D-i-L for our first trip to WV. This cabin has probably set an unattainable expectation for future stays. This place was the bomb. I think we snagged it due to a last minute cancelation. We will def try to stay there again, but I am sure it is always booked. Host was fantastic, helpful, and quick to respond. Co-host, Nancy, was an absolute pleasure to work with, if we needed anything.
I have come to this area for rafting for the past 10 years and this is the best place I have stayed. We met our friends from TN and had a blast all weekend. We couldn’t have spoke more highly of this place! We will definitely be back!
We have been to Fayetteville many times. This is by far the best place we have stayed at in the area. Cabin has everything you need and then some. Fantastic fire pit area, patio for corn hole and grilling.
Location: you definitely need 4WD/AWD to get up the driveway!
It’s located directly across from Cantrell rafting. Fantastic rafting company and they have a pub that’s open Thursday-Sunday.
This cabin is now our go to place to stay in Fayetteville. 5 star all the way!
Would absolutely recommend this property! While the driveway is a tiny bit intimidating it was no problem at all and just helped to make the house feel like it was away from it all. The house is great - not huge but felt spacious and housed five adults with no problem. I’d recommend bringing your own air mattresses (sofa bed mattress was past it’s prime but, folded up, the sofa was fine). The two beds in the bedrooms were great. We enjoyed the loft area for afternoon dozing and reading and that porch is fabulous - peaceful with beautiful views of the wildflowers in the yard. We would stay again in a heartbeat!
Top of the Hill Cabin is a wonderful place to stay when exploring New River Gorge. It is conveniently located but also secluded. The description does not lie when it says you need four wheel drive to get up the hill. The hill is walkable but it would be difficult if carrying luggage. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed, including extra towels, blankets, air mattresses, s’more sticks, and cooking utensils. Would highly recommend! Also if you’re looking for adventure check out Cantrell Rafting. We had a great time on the Lower New River Express!
