Our host, Randal, was awesome. The cabin was simply beautiful. We enjoyed our stay with family. The driveway was a little tricky but all in all we had a fabulous time.

Beautiful Setting

We were there for a football game weekend at Va Tech and were looking for something relaxing away from the typical hotel stuff. This home is as advertised; just sorry our stay was too short to enjoy all that was there. Peaceful is the perfect word to describe the setting.

My first impression of Peace Lodge very nice place., the host owner was friendly and made sure we made it to our location and also made it home safe. We visited many places, but our favorite place was Autumn Leave Festival in Mt Airy NC

Relaxing Mountain Retreat

Priceless Mountain escape

This was one of the best trips our family has ever been on. We had so much fun fishing and hanging out in the cabin with our boys cooking s’mores and just doing a little family bonding. Our boys caught there first trout in the beautiful creek just a few hundred feet from the cabin. At night the stars were just amazing

Beautiful, secluded home. The owner is great with his commuication and attention to his guests. We had an awesome time relaxing and enjoying the sounds of nature on the deck. This home is well stocked with everything you would need.

Awesome location, secluded yet close to POIs

Quite and comfortable. Location is nice with river views and some good mountian views on drive in. House is very accommodating, we cooked almost every meal there. Beds were comfortable and the steam shower was great. There is a ton on decking space to enjoy the river views. Our family would definitely go back.

Dugspur Hideaway

This property is excellent if you want to relax and enjoy nature off of the beaten path. The beds are comfy, the decor is rustic yet beautiful, and the home is equipped with all the necessary modern amenities. Randal, the owner, is exceptional with communication and truly seems to reach out to ensure your visit is top notch. We visited a winery, Villa Appalachia, and ate at the Blind Pig in Floyd our last night which we all enjoyed. Overall, we would highly recommended staying at this charming, unique home.

Holiday Getaway

We very much enjoyed our time at the Peace Lodge. The house is beautifully built; It was very comfortable and the fire place kept it warm and toasty. (The owner supplied the wood for the fireplace which was a nice touch.) Speaking of, throughout our trip, the owner was extremely communicative & helpful. You do need to pay attention to the owners instructions on needing to use a 4WD or AWD vehicle (he does supply one if needed) as the home is located on the side of a mountain and the access road is steep. The creek at the bottom of the property was lovely… we would definitely consider returning in spring or summer. Overall, it was a wonderful place to stay during the holidays to rest, relax and recharge.

beautiful house but it needed cleaning, coffee pot had mold in it and lots of dust on the floors, if it has snow on the driveway then you will need more than 4 wheel drive because it is extremely steep.

An amazing escape!

I'm truly not sure that words can do this home justice. It is a wonderful adventure in a beautiful location. If you need a break from the craziness of the 'real world' and want to be transported to a private quiet haven, look no further. The Peace Lodge was far more than we hoped. We hiked, explored, wandered up the river, fished, cooked, relaxed by a warm fire, played in the rain, and watched a gentle snow fall. Every detail was covered...we showed up with our groceries and needed nothing further. We loved the drive in on the shaded dirt road. You feel the stresses of the city fall away as you drive in through the trees. The owner is kind and helpful and we can't express how thankful we are that you shared this beautiful escape with us. All amenities go above and beyond. All is clean and organized. All is perfect! For all who need a place away from it all to relax and enjoy time with family and friends...you have found it!

Unique Getaway Spot

PeaceLodge is a very unique property filled with interesting and eclectic architectural and furnishing details. The location is perfect if you are looking for a feeling of seclusion, far away from the world. The sound of the water below the property is very soothing and you can listen to it from a place of comfort on multiple decks. There is plenty of room for kids to romp and run, and your smaller dogs will enjoy the property, too! My friend and I were delighted to be able to bring our little guys along. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms are up-to-date with modern comforts (air tub, steam shower) and the kitchen has plenty of appliances to make you feel at home. And if you're in the mood for a fire, there is a gorgeous fireplace with wood stacked outside. I would suggest that you bring kitchen items like your favorite spices, storage bags, foil, etc. The property owner has supplied a great many items, but things run out over time, and if you have favorites, bring them along. The property owner is very communicative and friendly, making sure visitors have everything they need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Be sure to pay attention to the recommendations for AWD/4 WD vehicles. My friend and I both drive smaller AWD vehicles and we were able to get in and out with no trouble while it was raining pretty hard. I would NOT recommend attempting the final drive into the property in anything less than AWD, but don't let that stop you from checking PeaceLodge out. The owner has a plan to assist you.

Beautiful Location

The owner was very helpful and easy to work with. The house is beautiful and the location, well let’s just say it’s “Breathtaking”! The house was clean but the ladybugs were in full force and they were on everything and in corners, ceilings, lights, the bathtub and the shower. The kitchen was nice but you need a couple of cookie sheets. The bathrooms were good but we didn’t have any throw rugs so when we got out of the showers or tub especially the tub it was a little slippery. No extra towels one per person. The water was Luke Warm I did not run any cold water for the tub and it still wasn’t hot! Especially when it was cold at night! I did notify the owner that he might have a problem with his septic or venting but we left this morning and I did notify you by text because you do have a sewer, septic, or holding tank issue! Let’s just say that it didn’t smell very pretty yesterday or this morning! Your home was very nice and the communication was fine until we arrived because the WiFi was not working and the cell service was SOS for Verizon or AT&T! We would go back because of the location and the owner was very nice! The owner gave us directions from every possible coming into the house it’s very remote. Once we arrived at the shared driveway it got confusing because we were suppose look or follow different markers. Just run 1 color all the way to the Durango! Then all we have to do is follow the driveway the rest of the way down.

A disappointing experience at the Peace Lodge

Our recent stay at Peace Lodge is vastly different from the description & pictures in the property listing. Upon arrival, we came to a heavily wooded dirt road that was barely cleared in several sections wide enough for our Ram 1500 to pass without trees brushing the sides & top of the truck. As many guests stated, the final drive down to the cabin is VERY steep & windy. The host provided an on-property Dodge Durango to help navigate the final stretch to the house, but it looked as if it hadn’t been moved in a year, had expired tags, brush growing around the tires, & was left adjacent to a dilapidated abandoned house located just before the final drive up to the house. After settling in, we wanted to see the waterfront & creek that was described in the post. We quickly realized that to get to the water we needed to navigate a vertical stairway that looks like something out of a funhouse. We calculated with an app that it was about 97’ vertical climb. This is something that should be included in the listing. The creek behind the house, while beautifully sounding on the deck of the home, was dirty brown water that was rocky and shallow. Not something you could navigate a canoe or swim in. Speaking of canoes, our family was so excited to use the one provided & planned for it. Recall those steep winding stairs? That’s how you’re supposed to get the 12’ canoe down the vertical climb. Upon inspection, we found the canoe was filled with mold, beer cans, & water. There was a puncture in the bow undoubtedly from the shallow creek & the travel from the house down the stairs. Visible scratches also covered the entire canoe. The host describes the house as luxurious, but it's rustic at best. The fridge hadn’t been cleaned in some time, with dirt, crumbs, residue from previous spills, & numerous open condiments packing the shelves. The floors were sandy & dusty, the pots, dishes, etc. had a greasy residue, & the patio furniture was covered in mold, falling apart, & unsafe. When we first arrived at the property, we were greeted by an empty cardboard box from a firepit that we assume was left by a previous guest & not removed between stays. There were countless ants in the kitchen & numerous worm-like insects in the basement level that we had to kill daily. After spending the night on the basement level, our son woke up on the first morning covered in bites. Multiple outlets were inoperable, & the charcoal grill was rusty, falling apart, & not food-safe.

Pretty incredible place

The owner was great about letting us know what to expect. The place is “fun” to drive into if you enjoy the idea of driving up and down into some mountain roads. The house was pretty awesome too. The area has so much to appreciate.

Wonderful Host

The host is excellent at communication and does insure that you have what is needed to get in and out of the house. As noted in the description the house is difficult to reach, but the host provides a 4x4 as needed. We had a great time, but be prepared for the ruggedness of the house and location.

Great family getaway with everything you could ever want!

The Peace Lodge was one of our favorite stays to date. Randal (host) was amazing and provided all of the information we needed and more. Super accommodating. Best host we have had so far. The house itself is one of a kind and incredible. It was absolutely perfect for our family of 5. It had everything you could ever need and more. Everything inside is top notch. The location was perfect. It was an adventure to get to and then once there, had a ton of great features. The multi level decks provided great view of surrounding nature. The stairs provided access to the river. We bought some tubes at Walmart and would take turns dropping the family off about a mile up the river. It took an hour or more to float back to the house. We had a great time doing this. Overall, we couldn't ask for a better experience. Highly recommend this great place to stay. One of our favorites stays for sure.

Quiet Get Away

My wife and I wanted a nice getaway in the mountains and this was a great place to be. It's very secluded and you're truly one with nature. We took a hike down to the river and it was great. I am sure in the spring it would be a wonderful place to fly fish. If you want a getaway PeaceLodge is for you!

Peaceful Retreat To Reflect

Due to the sudden and unexpected death of our brother-in-love Eddie this property was perfect for just kicking back and relaxing on the multiple decks, Beautiful and secluded home. We had a just what was needed time relaxing and enjoying the sounds of nature and reliving our lives with Eddie. Exceptional Host was great with his communication and attention to his guests. Home is so secluded a Durango was provided by the owner to take you the last 1400 feet! We Plan on returning later this year to see some fall foliage or next spring when everything is so green.

Anniversary Trip

My husband and I selected this location because of its seclusion and beauty and it lived up to it. Beautiful place. Excellent decks and the river below. You definitely need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get there, but the owner graciously offers one for you at the spot where you need it. Beautiful place to visit and relax.

Holiday Weekend - Unwind & Relax

This cabin is stunning. The location is breathtaking. The mountains, the water, the trails...all of it was amazing. The beds were very comfortable also. We had 4 adults and 3 children with us and there was plenty of space for everyone. The cabin is well maintained and well built. We kept the fire going all weekend from wood provided by the owner. We also were able to use the 4WD on the property to get to the cabin and back to our vehicle when needed. If you want peace and quiet in an immaculate setting, this is your place!
