This abandoned train depot was constructed by the State of Georgia in 1848, and is one of the oldest in Georgia. The depot witnessed many important events during the Civil War; a speech by Confederate President Jefferson Davis in 1861; the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862; a Civil War battle; and the first headquarters of General William T. Sherman during his Atlanta Campaign.

"The house was good and served our needs. Bedrooms were good size and there was plenty of common areas. The listing needs to include the fact that there is a family that lives in the basement. That was quite the surprise when there were no parking spots the first 2 days and the family was having birthday parties those days. "We loved staying at the Red Clay Farm House. The pictures and description were very accurate. We had eight adults (Two of them were college students.), and there was lots of room to spread out. The house was clean, beds comfortable and area beautiful. It was convenient to everything we did (Ootewah, Weaver, Chattanooga, etc. The hostess was wonderful about staying in touch and answering any questions promptly.
