About this property
City Cottage on Main St in North Georgia
Constructed in 1929, this home maintains all of its beautiful architectural elements of the original build. Ten foot ceilings, beautiful plaster details, transom windows, walnut and French doors. Endless interesting elements that are largely unknown in modern buildings.
Plenty of room to get lost in this old home occupied by the city elder, Justice of the Peace, Mr. Campbell’s family for 74 years. History abounds, and many people have been married here in front of the fireplace.
Guests love the sunroom that serves as a library and additional sleeping space with a fold out sleeper sofa. The huge living and dining room open into one another to gather with friends and family.
Guest bedrooms feature high quality beds with 100% cotton sheets and ample pillows and blankets. The master bedroom features a king sized premium Serta Black mattress that is luxurious! The master has an en suite bathroom that is in need of a refresh, but is clean and well equipped.
The furnishings throughout are unique and quality to enhance the experience.
There is a breakfast room for a quiet morning coffee or meal to seat four people. The kitchen features a huge farmhouse sink original to the house. The cabinets and layout of the kitchen are original too. Every utensil is available for your cooking adventures. The huge walk-in pantry includes spices and staples for your use. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and serving. Calphalon cookware is available so no sacrifices are made. A large dining room seats 8 people.
Guests also love the massive covered patio that overlooks the backyard. A ceiling fan helps keep the air moving on hot days. You will enjoy the abundance of plants and flowers to be found on the patio. There is also a gas grill and a two burner cooker (please make arrangements in advance so I can have this available). I also have massive cook pots if you want to do a seafood boil. I have added a tv with an antenna so you can watch local football. There is also a DVD player if you want to rent a movie or keep the kids entertained. For chilly nights, I have added a heater to eliminate the chill so you can hang out on the patio under the colorful lights. Guests love sitting in the swing and watching the wildlife and enjoying the big backyard. You are also walking distance to downtown. You can walk to downtown and have dinner or attend any of the Lafayette events.
Please take the time to enjoy the yard and explore the abundance of plants and wildlife. Listed with the National Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. I am available for garden tours if that is of interest.
Under two massive oak trees there is a fire pit for your use and an aged shed is the backdrop for your time in the garden.

The property was beautiful and my group had a great time. All shops, restaurants, and recreation activities were conveniently within a 15 minute drive. I will definitely consider coming back soon!
The home is a restored historic home that is beautiful. The location is downtown and very convenient to shops, restaurants, and Walmart. The homeowner was very kind and helpful. I highly recommend if you need to stay in the Lafayette area.
This seems to be a historic home which still has the charm. May seem dated to some, but that is a personal preference. Our stay was short but pleasant. Janet, the host and Oliver (her large poodle) were very friendly and welcoming. Beds were comfy, and all our needs were accommodated.
We stayed 3 nights at the historic home and were so pleased! The house is a gem, everywhere we looked there was another beautiful item or antique! Can't say enough about the comfort of the home, especially the master bedroom! The bed is awesome! Will stay again if we get to visit Chattanooga area and battlefield again. Hostess is wonderful to deal with and her dog is so sweet! Thank you Janet!
My husband and I stayed at this charming home over the Christmas holiday so that we could visit my daughter and her husband who live close to LaFayette.
The house was extremely clean and exactly what you would expect from a home built at that time period. We absolutely loved it! The beds were so comfortable. The host was very accommodating and easy to communicate with when we needed.
We will be staying here again and would recommend to anyone wanting a nice, clean and comfortable place to stay that is close to Chattanooga but quiet and relaxing.
My two buddies and I stayed at the Cottage while day hiking a section of the Pinhoti Trail. The 3 bedroom 2 Bath was perfect for our crew.Cottage has a fine kitchen with a great set of cookware, generously supplied coffee station, and an assortment of spices.Around back is a huge yard with space to park vehicles off street and a large outdoor covered patio. There’s tables and seating for a large family to enjoy. After our daily hikes lasting from four to six hours, we were drawn to the large back patio to relax and enjoy the afternoons. We were surprised at how much time we spent in this outdoor living area.Highly recommend this house and host!
Lovely home in downtown Lafayette. Many amenities provided to help those that have traveled long distances, including shampoo, body lotion, body wash, soap, laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, etc. A coffee bar! Yes, coffee! Beautifully set up, so you can enjoy your morning without worrying about a grocery run. The grocery store is very close by though as are several restaurants to grab some quick food. The kitchen is a dream and you will have everything you need to meal prep. The pantry was awesome for storage. Used only two beds and those were comfy. Primary bathroom needs an update but still fine for an older home. Lots of antique furniture throughout the home. One of the sofas should probably be updated as it’s very hard, but again, still fine. Janet’s apartment is attached to the house, but she’s not intrusive at all. Security cameras are at the front door and back door. What a beautiful house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this historic cottage. We were in town for a family reunion and this home provided sufficient room for five adults and three children. The accommodations were well appointed and had everything we needed for the weekend. The historical architecture was amazing with soaring ceilings and spacious rooms. It was centrally located to all of our activities and places to eat. Janet was amazing. She was responsive to any questions we had prior to our arrival and addressed any questions we had once we got there. If we ever have to stay in Lafayette again, we would absolutely choose this location!
Needed a place to stay for a friend’s wedding and found this VRBO offering. Lovely historic home that has been well-maintained. Minus a few appliance/TV updates, it truly feels like you’re stepping into a time machine and going back 100+ years. Yet, everything is both functional and quite comfortable. Bed in the master bedroom was super comfortable! Only had one minor issue with a TV remote and it was quickly resolved by the owner. Excellent WiFi as well. Over 100 mbps both up and down. Wish we could have stayed longer and are actively considering booking again in the future to come back and take advantage of the nearby hiking trails.
Very cool historic home with dreamy outdoor sitting
The house was really neat and had nice size bedrooms, living room and dining room. I really loved the coffee table and nook and the windows with clear glass that you could see outside in. The outdoor sitting area in the back was absolutely dreamy with plants and a soothing water feature. The largest bed was soft though the other beds were more firm so depending on what you prefer there were choices. I also loved that I could close the gates which was very helpful when we were outside given the home is on a main road in this small town. There was a salon across the street and the small downtown nearby. My daughter got married in Ringgold at Flat Duck and this house was about 22 minutes and just a few turns away. The owner stayed in an apartment in the back so we were mindful not to block the driveway or leave the gate closed, and while she was incredibly responsive and easy to communicate she was invisible throughout our 3 night stay. I would absolutely stay here again and my only regret is that we were running around so much that we did not get to spend more time hanging out at the historic property.
Host was very friendly and the cottage was great and well stocked with dishes and stuff to cook with and a coffee station with different types of coffee and hot chocolate. Great location and quiet area. The whole family had a great time. Even had board games to play. I will love to go back
Janet's place was perfect. A beautiful nostalgic home that literally has everything that you would need. If you have a short stay or planning a vacation this is the perfect place. It gives you the feel of going back home to grandmas. Priced well for everything you get. We will absolutely stay there again. Communication was a breeze. Don't let this beauty pass, just book it..
The house was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated for the holiday. The entry and check out instructions were clear, and the host was attentive. My nephews loved making s’mores in the fire pit and riding their bikes downtown to visit the historic park. It was a wonderful place for our extended family to gather and enjoy each others company.
