Great beach getaway

Enjoyed morning walks beachside and close to shopping and restaurants. We were in an upstairs unit which was comfortable and quiet.

Location, location, location

This wonderful apartment was just a few steps and a stairway from a beautiful stretch of beach. You could open the windows and hear the roar of the sea, as well as enjoying a sea breeze. The apartment had beach chairs, umbrella, and two boogie boards for coastal action. It was close to, but not in, downtown Carlsbad so street parking was possible, though they did have a dedicated spot on the property. Newly remodeled kitchen and two queen beds in smallish bedrooms, along with a good sized living room. The manager was on top of things, and was very responsive, taking care of all questions and concerns. He worked hard to make sure the place met all our expectations. A comfy hideaway for the week, it was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the local scene.

Overall everything went well!! Location was great, very close to the beach and walking distance from Carlsbad Village. Major, the property manager was very nice and helped carry our bags upstairs.

Great location, misleading advertising, odd smell in kitchen

Waited for almost an hour to get into the unit before the host gave us the code to unlock the door. The kitchen had a funny, sour smell to it. So bad that we did not cook while we were there. The refrigerator has an ice maker that is not hooked up so every hour or so it would try and make ice and the noise was like grinding metal that would wake us up at night. Ants in the living room floor. The internet worked the first day but then the password was changed/added and it would not work after that. We had to use our cellular wifi for the trip. The only tv in the unit had a dark shadow across the middle of the screen. The picture in the advertisement for the unit shows the front unit, not the actual one we rented. Ours had no windows in one of the bedrooms at all! And even though the outdoor area was shared, the other family had definitely claimed it as their own. We were able to use it when they left but they had used all of the propane so we could not grill or use the outdoor fire pit. The host was very slow to respond to let us know there was one extra tank in the laundry room. He did bring another the next day, but it was a bit late. We thought we would have more windows and more of a view. The location was amazing! Just a short walk to the beach which we loved. The hosts were very kind, just seemed slow to respond. The unit itself was just a bit misleading and the smell in the kitchen was very offputting.

Great location

If you don't need a 5 star place, this spot has an ideal location. The outside is a little run down and needs some TLC. They were a little weird about check in. We asked if we could have an early one. They offered for us to rent an earlier night which we couldn't do. Then took forever to answer about an early check in, then said yes but weren't ready when we arrived. Generally, they were highly responsive once we were there. And mostly, it doesn't matter much if you spend all your time at the beach.
