The cabin was absolutely beautiful. The location was very convenient to downtown Blue Ridge. The total disappointment was with the beds. They were so uncomfortable. It was impossible to get a good night’s sleep. Myself and my sister both had to buy a foam mattress topper to try to make it work. In addition, they already had a foam topper on the beds which tells me they’ve already had complaints about the comfort level of these beds. As a rental property owner, I don't think the beds should be an afterthought. A good night’s sleep is a critical part of a vacation. For us we tried to make it work, but ended up leaving a day early because we were tired after not sleeping for a few nights. I even slept on the couch the last night hoping that would help. Vacations with good sleep are absolutely precious and should not been overlooked.
A couple other details that need to be addressed.
The HVAC system downstairs didn’t work. We had to buy a space heater to bring the temperature to a comfortable level.
We couldn't get the indoor fireplace to work. However, that wasn't a big deal because it was warm enough not to use it.
The outdoor fireplaces didn't have tools. Because of that no one cleaned the fireplace out from prior use and we were unable to do the same once we were done. I've always cleaned the fireplace as part of the exit requirements from a rental property. In addition, lack of tools makes it more difficult to manage the fire. One sad thing we noticed is that because there were no tools and no starter logs, we believe the prior guest used some kind of paper to start a fire. Using paper in a fire makes for abnormal ash to float out of the flames. Because of this the furniture was covered in ash and soot. It was sad to see your nice furniture damaged that way. I would rather pay a few more dollars a night and have these items covered (FP tools, starter log and a few logs to get started). Then the second night the guests can purchase what would be needed for the remainder of the stay. In the winter months you might want to have a starter fireplace kit to get your guests started. If your worried about theft of tools then have them set up in a way where they are kept inside, but accessible.
The outside trash can was almost full when we got there. We were unable to put our final load of trash in the can upon exiting. This note is longer, but I ran out of text space.
