The staff were very friendly and helpful, not only with matters concerning the accommodation but also with information about restaurants, etc., in the area. The Jupe (tent cabin with bed) was clean and well prepared. The mattress of the bed was a bit uncomfortable. The center was very soft but the edges were firm, so that when one lay on one's side, one was either angled upward or downward. Also, the Jupe had a novel lighting system that was powered by stored solar energy to provide light along the edges of the floor. The lighting was more than adequate, but the switch to operate it made it difficult to turn the lights on and off, and seemed not to allow intermediate intensity levels to conserve energy even though the intensity changed gradually between full on and off when the light was coming on or off. Having cocoa (and other beverages) provided free at the shop between the wash rooms was a nice touch.

We came to celebrate my husband’s birthday and instantly fell in love with this campsite—we didn't want to leave after just two days! The experience was incredibly peaceful and restorative, offering stunning views of the bay covered in gorgeous ocean fog, set to the sound of birds singing. The facilities were top-notch: the bathrooms and showers are clean, and we appreciated the free morning coffee. We highly recommend renting the propane gas fireplace for $35; it was absolutely worth it and cozy, though we regret not renting it the first night! A note for future visitors: it can get quite cold at night, so bring warm layers. We stayed in a solar-operated Jute, and while the power dipped temporarily, a generator is available. Despite the chill, this is a beautiful spot just minutes from town. We will absolutely be back!

View is unbeatable! We stayed in the tent cabins which had comfy bed. Chairs outside on a deck to view the ocean along the coast. We were allowed late check out at noon.

Be careful renting a jupe!

A beautiful site, everyone was pleasant, and the cottages and RV sites are probably fine. However, the photo conceals the fact that all of the lodgings are high on the hill, not near the beach. We rented a jupe, and of course it's obvious to me now that there's no bathroom, but I saw the photo of a nice bathroom and conflated the two! There's a port-a-potty nearby, and a very nice communal bathroom, but it is a long walk uphill so not at all convenient. The jupe (yurt) is nice as far as it goes...but the deal breaker for us was the temperature. It was cozy and warm when we got there at 4pm, but as soon as the sun went down, you could feel it getting colder by the minute. By 6pm, it was intolerable to us, and we packed up our car and left.

The property is beautifully kept. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We stayed in a jute. We booked on Expedia and it said bath towels were included. This was an error, the staff quickly resolved the issue and brought us bath towels. Great relaxing place to stay. We will definitely be back!

The Elmore Anniversary stay

Our 45th Anniversary was spent in this very Amazing place! It was an excellent choice. From being greeted wonderfully by Rod to the cottage and view from it! We will definitely be staying there again!!

Enjoyable stay, would visit again!

Visited Flying Flags Avila for the first time and had a great stay! The location is quiet and relaxing with easy beach access, dog friendly amenities, and beautiful views. The staff was kind and helpful throughout our visit. The only downsides were the furniture in our cabin, which was quite uncomfortable, especially the bed and sofa, but given the price and location we were fine making that tradeoff. We also had an issue with ants in the kitchenette, waking up to a large trail leading to our dog’s food bowl. Maintenance came by quickly to spray and clean up, which we appreciated. It would have been nice if we had been told in advance that ants are a recurring issue here so we could have been more proactive with food storage. Since this is a very dog friendly place, leaving out a food bowl does not seem unreasonable. We also noticed ants on the bathroom floor after showers, likely searching for water. Honestly this comes with the territory of being at the base of a mountain. We are no strangers to campgrounds and a few bugs are not deal breakers, but it may be worth letting visitors know ahead of time. All in all, it was no harm done and did not take away from our trip. If small inconveniences like that would ruin a stay, a hotel might be a better fit. Overall we had a wonderful time and would happily return. Thank you Flying Flags!
