Endless charm in the heart of the Central Valley

The beautiful Villa El Sueño is situated 8 minutes from the heart of Atenas and sits on a hill with expansive views of mountain ranges & the volcanoes of the central valley. It’s the perfect setting for a relaxing vacation and a great base for exploring the country. The house is a mix of Costa Rican hacienda and contemporary comfort. Careful curated elements that are part of “Tico” culture and traditions have been incorporated to make this house a true Costa Rican experience.

The House:
4000+ sq ft (400+ m2) home
Situated on 2 acres (8000 m2) in a private, gated community the entire house sits on one convenient level. The spectacular Main room with an open kitchen (oven/ stovetop, microwave, dishwasher), sitting area and dining room boasts 25’ (8M) ceilings, and there is a separate, more intimate living room with a 65” (165 cm) smart TV with Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney, etc. available through your accounts. There are three bedrooms and two full baths- a primary Bedroom with a King bed & private bathroom (with shower and spa tub) and two additional bedrooms, each with a Queen bed. Cool evenings provide natural air conditioning. An office nook looks out on the pool area. A laundry room with a washer and dryer are available to guests and Wifi works throughout the house. A Bose speaker is available in the Main room and can be connected to your music via Bluetooth.

The bi-lingual Caretaker lives in a small house (“casita”) on the property and coordinates housekeeping, gardening, pool service and check-ins and check-outs.

The Rancho:
Outdoor living is central to the experience at Villa El Sueño. Adjacent to the infinity pool is “the Rancho,” a covered patio area overlooking the mountain vistas with a living room, dining room, gas BBQ grill, ½ bathroom and a small “gym” with a NordicTrack treadmill.

The Town:
Atenas is the ultimate Costa Rican town, at times, modern, with international cuisine, shopping, excellent medical facilities and services; yet with the hospitality and ambiance of a small Costa Rican town. It is one of the most cosmopolitan towns in Costa Rica, a place where you can interact with locals and ex-pats, while relaxing, always surrounded by nature. All the essential services you’re looking for are close-by. The center of town is 8 minutes away. There are two supermarkets, 6 and 9 minutes away, and a dozen restaurants just 5-6 minutes away. A couple of things that make Atenas noteworthy are its climate and coffee. The town is said to have one of the best climates in the world, with average temperatures in the mid-70s°F (24-25°C) year-round. Temperatures in the “summer” or “dry season” (December-April) range from average lows of 65-70°F (18-21°C) and highs of 85-88°F (29-31°C). Temperatures in the “winter” or “wet season” hardly vary, with average lows of 65-68°F (18-20°C) and highs of 83-86°F (21°C). Atenas is surrounded by world-class coffee plantations and was on the “Oxcart Trail” that transported coffee from the central valley to ports on the two coasts. Little wonder that “International Living” and “AARP” have named Atenas one of the best places to retire in the world.

The Location:
We are in the heart of Costa Rica’s central valley, 30 minutes from the San Jose airport and 40 minutes from Escazu and the capital. No 4x4 is required to reach the house. Prime beaches on the Pacific coast are just over an hour away. Villa El Sueño can be your “home base” for exploring all that Costa Rica has to offer- lush cloud forests, river rafting, coffee plantations, volcanoes, ziplining, bird watching and, of course, world-famous beaches and national parks.
