What impressed me most was the incredibly welcoming staff, who made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. "The Celecton is a nice, standard Japanese hotel. The rooms are small, but they are practical, very clean and amenities are good. If you want a hotel that is close to the Castle then this is a good one, but it is 10-15 minutes walk to the train station, restaurants, and the other attractions in Matsumoto. My room was facing the Castle but directly above a busy road, so it was quite noisy."

"I stayed at the JAL for 8 nights and was happy with the service. The location is great as it is a short walk to Zenkoji Temple, the Prefectural Museum and also to Nagano JR Station. Nagano was a fascinating city to visit and the JAL was situated in a good location for finding amenities such as shopping and food. I love to walk and I really enjoyed exploring the area around the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although my room was rather crowded with 3 beds, it was kept clean and well stocked. My only complaint was that the breakfast for a Westerner was very limited and got predictable very quickly. The food was very good, presented well and tasted fine but after 8 breakfasts eating the same things I was ready for a change."
