San Fernando Valley Kid friendly Vacations

We’ve stayed at the Westin St Francis multiple times over the years and always looked forward to returning. Unfortunately, this once grand old hotel is grand no more. The Powell street lobby entrance has been invaded by a huge bar/lounge that looks cool but doesn’t open until 4pm. It takes up a lot of prime real estate in the hotel and serves no real purpose for the better part of the day. To check into the hotel you now enter on Geary into an area that feels temporary, kind of like the vibe you get at an airport gate under construction. It’s just very disjointed. The fake cherry trees and fake flower wrapped columns in the lobby are tacky, and dusty. Two of my family members had sneezing fits while standing under the faux blooms. They chuckled about the paper flower pollen being particularly bad this time of year. The hotel has also done away with any lobby seating. Your only hope of seating is in the garden cafe, which makes it feel a bit like a Greyhound bus station. Some of the registration staff were better at their jobs than others, who seemed generally malcontent. We stayed in the Tower this trip; the best part was the amazing view from our room and the super fast glass elevators. Happily, the mattresses are wonderful. Our room was ok but could use a refresh. One family member found litter in his room. Thinking back on past stays, maybe the rooms were always a bit outdated but the majesty of the hotel overshadowed any shortcomings. Sadly, for us the magic is gone.

This hotel exceeded expectations. The room was incredibly spacious with high quality linens and bedding. They cleaned the room daily as well. I almost want to keep this place a secret because is such a great value for the quality. I would compare it to a Four Seasons when it comes to quality and level of service. Wonderful place to stay half a block from boys town in West Hollywood. Quaint, well appointed, cozy rooms, always welcome us when we stay. The 2nd floor sitting area with patio, coffee, tea juices and bakery items In theam, and wine in the pm is so great. Mini rooftop a 24 hour retreat to sit and overlook the hills. Staff is always incredibly kind and helpful. It’s a small boutique place with warm relaxed service.

We stayed at The Aster while attending a show at the Pantages, and the location couldn't have been more convenient. The hotel was very clean, and our suite was spacious, but several aspects of the stay were disappointing. Upon arrival, we were asked for our full name three separate times—by the valet, front-door security, and the front desk—this felt excessive and unnecessarily repetitive. The front desk was efficient but not particularly welcoming; there was no effort to engage with us about our stay, plans, or whether we needed anything. While the room itself was large and spotless, the view was unfortunate, looking directly onto a rooftop dominated by a concrete wall, mechanical equipment, and a service stairway. A few basic details were also overlooked. There was no bottle opener in the room, and the bathroom shower featured a partial glass enclosure that allowed water to escape onto the floor after every use. The robes provided were small for anyone with a larger frame, and the bed was one of the least comfortable hotel beds I've experienced—extremely firm and noticeably worn. The biggest issue, however, was noise. Room 414 is directly below the fifth-floor kitchen, and we could hear footsteps, rolling carts, doors opening and closing, and other servicactivity throughout our stay. Nearby laundry facilities added even more noise, and the service stairway outside was active until 3am. Food was fine, but nothing memorable.

If you ever have the opportunity to stay here, I would highly recommend it. Everyone was helpful, kind, and went the extra mile. Beautiful property, wonderful food, and within walking distance of fun and exciting restaurants, shopping, and events!

The front staff seemed like we bothered them with our checking in, but the room was nice and the location was central.

Room was clean, staff was very nice and helpful, the little restaurant was very good inside hotel. Laundry room was stinky, floor was wet, dirty laundry was pilled up from the room’s bedding, I didn’t get to wash my laundry the washer had a smell and if you need to workout there was nothing in gym but a treadmill.
