I love this hotel! It is extremely well decorated and always clean. The location can't be any better. Super close to the Original Farmers Market and The Grove. They also have a restaurant attached so grabbing some food or drink in the evening is convenient. I definitely recommend Short Stories if you are coming to the LA area!

My partner and I were doing a roadtrip from Texas and decided to head to Venice and ultimately to book a last minute stay for two nights at Hotel Erwin. The check in process was a breeze and were given the “best” room (#514). Valet was very helpful with all of our bags. We went to the beach and when we got back to the room I heard my partner scream from the shower. Upon entering the restroom I open the shower door and there laid a HUGE roach that had crawled over my partner’s feet. I immediately went to call the front desk 3 times and didn’t get an answer. I took a picture and took it down to show the receptionist. She was shocked and apologized and asked “what do you want to do?” She reassured us they didn’t have an infestation and offered to comp resort fees and comp our valet charges. Come time to check out they waived the resort fees but still charged half price for parking. I told the receptionist it was incorrect and she would not budge. Magically a manager isn’t available and anytime I call the manager isn’t there or is busy. It’s not about the money it’s about the principle. I paid quite a bit of money to stay there and to be treated this way and to be ignored is completely unacceptable. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want roaches showering with you.

Room was clean. AC was cold. Good water pressure. Plenty of outlets. Rooms have mini fridge but no microwave. I recommend bringing your own toiletries as what's offered is limited and inconsistent. The self check in and out station is convenient. Parking is limited and $10 per day. If they run out you can park across the street at their sister hotel (Glendale Hotel) for free. No vending machines or snacks for purchase on site. Only one chair in the room. Suggestions: A microwave on top of the mini fridge and a second chair would be ideal. If you want to take it a step further providing a small folding table would be great. You can tuck it next to the mini fridge.

Staff was great, room was a bit smaller than expected but worked well for my family of 3. There was a hot water issue but fixed right away and one day we were left with no towels but again immediately corrected when we asked, brought up within 5 mins. I could see dust around the closet edges but the bed was always made and sheets clean. Also one of the elevators was broken which made a bit of longer wait at times. Great location to walk to seaport, midway little Italy or the convention center with a lot of restaurants. It was great to have parking available as well and not have to worry about that being downtown.
