Great location. Clean room. Very small bathroom shower area. Hard to close the door. Room cleaned daily. Good breakfasts.

This is my second visit to this hotel. Two years ago, when I visited here, it made such an impression on me that I came back again. So, for this time since I checked in at the lady's reception. She let me grab my luggage from the front mirror room by myself ( I left in the morning and came back at 3 p.m.for check-in). She opened the door for us and let me grab it. I feel that normally your service is more welcoming than this time. The room inside is old some cabinet is broken, the pillow is uncomfortable for sleep, and the important thing is that when I turn on the A/C or heat the air comes with a food smell all the room. Finally, I check out in the morning. The other lady's reception is so nice and a welcome service to us. We appreciate.

The Christmas tree - the main highlight of the season - was sadly relegated to the side of the main door and in its usual place was a ridiculous champagne bar! Not a good look for a venerable hotel - and frankly, pretty low-brow. And zero seating in the lobby so everyone was hanging around with their luggage, just adding to the general chaos created by the gingerbread house. Festive busy-ness is one thing but the layout was poorly done this year and guests just seemed frustrated. Also - Fairmont used to provide guests with slippers in the rooms; why has this stopped? And bar service at the Laurel Court was not up to bar on two of the three nights I was there - the bartenders were both frantic and claimed not to know how to make some basic cocktails when it was clear they just thought it would take too long to make them. Not the Fairmont standard of professionalism to which I have become accustomed.

Pros: nice lobby, central location, very clean room, comfy beds, valet parking, filtered water refill stations on each floor Cons: poor water pressure in shower, terrible noise. I know the area well, lived in SF for years, Union Sq isn’t a quiet part of town. But the windows provided no sound filter at all. Our room was on a low floor facing Powell and we could hear everything below until 1am and the loud beeping and clanging of delivery and construction trucks starting at 5am. Street noise obviously isn’t the hotel’s fault but the single pane, poorly insulated windows are. If noise could be an issue for you, request a higher floor or be sure to bring ear plugs.
