Great hotel!

Located at a beautiful historic compound, the hotel itself is very nicely maintained with great restaurants, cafe and facilities on-site.

Check-in started on a very positive note. The lady at the front desk was friendly and professional, and I appreciated that my room was ready even though I arrived an hour early. Unfortunately, the service afterward was inconsistent. When I couldn't connect to the Wi-Fi, the gentleman at the front desk simply told me his connection worked, so the problem must be mine, with no offer to help troubleshoot. I also rented a fairly expensive conference room for three hours. Admittedly, our meeting ran over, but rather than giving us a reminder, a hotel employee came into the room mid-meeting and abruptly asked us to leave. I understood we had exceeded our time, but it could have been handled more professionally. Later, when we asked how to access the 4th-floor restaurant, we were simply told to read the sign rather than given directions. At breakfast, I was also questioned about where my "second occupant" was because their system showed double occupancy, although I had booked for one. The loft room itself was fine, with clean, comfortable bedding. Overall, nothing was terribly wrong with the hotel, but the repeated service encounters left an unfavorable impression. With so many hotels to choose from in Shanghai, I didn't find enough here to make me want to return.

There was this amazing dude named Morgan at the front lobby with the suitcases. He was such an amazing help and told me all the cool places to go and what to do based on what I was looking for. Even spoke English so easily 10/10 made my stay like 5x better.

We absolutely loved at stay at Chateau Star, it was more then what we expected. Breakfast buffet was exceptional. Staff were friendly and helped as much as they could given language barrier, really only had 1 staff member who spoke English which was great as we weren't proficient with the translation apps immediately. Rooms were clean and we were super comfortable. There were plenty of restaurants and cafes, along with sone corner stores a short walk away. We will definitely be staying there again.
