Had a quick overnight stay on a tour of Yorkshire with partner and four-year-old. The family room was very clean and comfortable with a solid bunk bed for the kid and huge comfy bed for us. It's right on the main square in the village so very nice for walking around. All the parking spots were taken when we were there (there was a local farm show on that day so not terribly surprising), but parking overnight in the square was just fine. Breakfast was really tasty; fresh ingredients beautifully cooked, and great service from the staff. Absolutely would visit again.

Centrally located, lots of character Breakfast very good, as were breakfast staff. Room was comfortable Staff in reception and in bar attached to reception not friendly or welcoming in the slightest. Really quite abrupt One of the coffee cups in our room contained some disgusting scummy liquid with mould on it

The Black Swan in the centre if Helmsley is ideal for visiting the local area, comfortable clean and well appointed. Staff helpful and pleasant. The menus for dinner and breakfast were excellent, served fresh and hot. We had a very comfortable stay and would definitely consider booking the hotel again in future.

Lovely hotel in Helmsley with great restaurant and beer garden, would definitely recommend. Rooms are very good size and overall the experience was good value for money. The one thing that let it down for me was the quality of the cooked breakfast. I don’t expect microwaved scrambled eggs from a hotel of this quality, not when you only order the scrambled eggs on toast, and I was also given black pudding that wasn’t fully cooked and so wasn’t safe to eat. There are a lot of good breakfast cafes instead in the village though.
