Our first time in Hawai’i, and this place was one of the highlights of our trip. Surrounded by lush forest and secluded, it was the perfect getaway. The central location on the island allows for east access to everywhere. We will definitely be talking about/recommending the volcano mist cottage to others.
Unique property with a beautiful setting. Right next to the National Park. The hosts were great and even gave me a novel to keep as a wonderful souvenir. We enjoyed the days we spent hiking at the National Park and having this beautiful cottage to come back to ar the end of each day.
This is a fantastic place to stay! Location is easy to find and phenomenally private! You really feel taken care of at all times both before and during your stay. We would recommend this to anyone traveling to the area!
What can we say, this was an incredible experience from start to finish, this place has it all and could think of no place better than here for a romantic getaway with all the amenities one could ask for! This will be our haven in the volcano the next time we visit!
Perfect couples retreat in prime location for exploring Volcanoes National Park
Exactly as advertised. Well-appointed cottage nestled in rain forest with total seclusion yet only minutes from Volcanoes National Park and the quaint village of Volcano. Definitely sized for two people and would be uncomfortable for a long stay ? we ?lived out of our suitcases? for our 2 night stay because we had lots of luggage and the cottage was tight but again it was perfect for our short stay. One odd quirk with the layout - the indoor shower was at the back door so if one person is showering and the other needed to exit to use the washer/dryer then they would either have to walk thru the shower or use the front door to go around the cottage. Of course using the outdoor shower solves that problem. Would appreciate more fruit upon check-in. We received one apple and one papaya but maybe because we were only staying 2 days?
We had a wonderful time. It was a delightful cottage in the rain forest. Very private and with a private hot tub outside. Imagine sitting in a hot tub in a rain forest. Truly captivating.
There's a clearing in front of the Volcano Mist Cottage, but the Cottage itself is nestled right into the rain forest, as part of the land, rather than a fixture upon it.
It's a brilliant setting, matched by the ingenuity of the design. But what most impressed me was the care and aloha with which the Cottage is presented. We felt like we were the first visitors ever! And most welcome. The Cottage was immaculate, perfectly appointed, and holds lots of delightful surprises.
Spoiler alert, I'm going to mention three of those delightful surprises:
The patio fireplace. It rained a lot while we were there (mid-Feb), but we could sit comfortably indoors or out, warmed by the fire in the evenings.
Cork flooring! Who knew it would feel so warm and resilient underfoot?
The outdoor shower. There's an indoor shower, but this one is way more fun!
To live, even for a short time, in a place so thoughtfully designed, built and cared for is a life-changing experience. Thank you for making the Volcano Mist Cottage available, and kudos to the caretakers.
Property is beautiful, very clean, good directions, only thing was bed. Bedroom is crowded and mattress is not up to what I would have expected. Full or queen, not sure, but we are tall and need more space, king size would be more appropriate. We ended up with one person on futon.
Lodge might have been better option.
This is the perfect place to stay if you plan to spend time in Hawaii Volcano National Park. We felt instantly at home, totally secluded in this private hideaway.
This place is absolutely stunning. Super private and had everything you would want on a romantic getaway. Although in the middle of the jungle, we were surprised that there was so few bugs. Very clean and the furnishings were super nice. If we ever visit the Big Island again, we will definitely try to stay here again.
This is a very unique place to stay on vacation. The best parts were the hot tub surrounded by a lush jungle, the outdoor shower, and the proximity to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The downsides are that it is quite small and cramped, lighting is dim and there isn't much natural sunlight in the cabin, and the kitchen isn't high end. When considering those downsides the value isn't great but the uniqueness of a jungle cabin was worth it! The owners take great care in their property and their guests.
My husband and I spent 3 amazing days at the cottage. It is clear the owners take great pride in the grounds and have an eye for detail. From a thoughtful welcome note and gift to homemade banana bread, your arrival is special. The location is private with the outdoor shower and hottub surrounded by amazing lush vegetation. A short 5 minute drive to the volcanoes made this a perfect vacation spot. We only wish we had more time to spend at this amazing cottage and would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit this part of the island!
Great relaxing cottage at the base of Volcano National Park. Feels like you are in your own personal paradise. I would highly recommend to any couple looking to get away and relax.
just book it if you are looking for a special place in the jungle
I came back after 8 years and it is still one of the best places I stayed - and I travel more then 50 countries in the world. I would mention it together with boroka downs in down under and las cumbres in Uruguay.
And for the onsite dining you only get 5 stars if you are happy with your own cooking expperience- there is a full equipted kitchen for self cooking.
This is the ideal spot for a romantic get-a-way. It was cool weather, remote isolation among the Ohia trees, yet with every convenience you may ever wish for. The unit was well stocked beyond our expectations. It also came with daily continental breakfast and two bikes to boot. The outdoor jacuzzi was just perfect after a long hike and the indoor/outdoor fire places were all too welcoming. Although it was missing an outdoor grill the kitchen was especially well stocked for full use. The only caveats on this place is that the indoor space does run tightly efficient, so for those who are tall or require more space, be ready for a few knocks. In all, it is a place we'd definitely return to.
The photos are great but you just can't relay the sounds, peace, serenity, solitude and calming sense that is actually experienced here. That was our experience. Every night, we enjoyed the private outdoor shower and hot tub. Hearing the rain gently tap as we soaked and the lighting was perfect. A couple nights under the Super Moon...I can't describe it, you just have to be there...as a couple, I definitely recommend this as a couple. This is not the place we want to bring our friends or kids, no, no, this is just for us! Inside the cottage, a note and little gifts like homemade banana bread and muffins. A stocked kitchen, coolers, rain gear, a backpack, towel warmers, spa robes (used daily), tons of shampoo/conditioner, conveniently placed outlets, 4 wine bottle openers, lol. Many more amenities were provided but check before going to the grocery store; there was more stocked than I expected. Off of the property, we explored daily. Every night, we stopped to look at the Kilauea crater on our way home because the the boiling lava level changed every time and it glowed (bring the binoculars from the cottage). The cottage provides helpful information about things to do and where to eat so I will only mention what wasn't in there. The Tuk Tuk Thai food truck - delicious and authentic, only a few minutes away from the cottage. Uncles Awa Bar and Farmers Market on Wednesday from 5-10pm - a variety of ethnic foods cooked onsite, local art and food items, live music. That was the best food we ate all week. We biked 4 miles to see the lava enter the ocean and biked against strong wind 4 miles back. We worked off the calories that we later put on at Uncles. Our favorite trip was to Waipi'o Valley with Ride the Rim - an atv tour that incorporates Hawaiian culture and history. There's more to say, but this will do for now. We can't wait to go back and call the Volcano Mist Cottage home again :) Mahalo for this exquisite experience.
Mahalo for a wonderful stay at your Wahi Malie (place of calmness).
We enjoyed hiking and other activities during the day and then retreated to the Volcano Mist Cottage in the evenings.
We loved the secluded outdoor hot tub.
We got takeout food from Thai Thai close by in Volcano Village and enjoyed it on the covered lanai while we listened to the peaceful sounds of the songbirds in the rain forest and warmed up with the outdoor fireplace.
Volcano Mist Cottage is tucked away in complete seclusion.
What a great way to renew, refresh, and recharge.
Highly recommended!
