Thank you so much for a wonderful week in your charming property. From the great communication beforehand and extremely warm welcome on arrival, including several local treats for us to try, we knew we were going to have a great time.
The house itself is beautiful. The original barn has been lovingly renovated to retain its original features, but making it a luxurious holiday home with lots of little details carefully thought out. The downstairs, being open plan, feels very light and spacious, with a fully -stocked kitchen for all of your catering needs.
Upstairs, the three bedrooms all have great storage with built-in wardrobes, and some of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in! Paired with the electric shutters throughout the house, we were very well rested by the end of the week.
But our most favourite place to be was most definitely the garden. This is so beautifully landscaped to create a haven on four levels. The first is a large patio area with a table and chairs at the bottom from which we enjoyed our breakfast. The second is the pool area, crafted around the rocks, with a decking area to sit beside the pool. The children loved the pool, perfect to cool off in on a hot afternoon after sightseeing in the morning.
Then there is a pretty planted garden area with sun loungers to relax in and admire the view.
Finally, the piece de resistance, is the terrace at the top of the garden, under the cave roof, with a large seating and barbecue area from which there is the most stunning view of the castle and the surrounding countryside. We spent our evenings cooking, eating and relaxing here-just perfect.
Hidden behind the seating area is a natural cave with a heated whirlpool. We all enjoyed this very much-a real treat!
The house is in a great part of the Dordogne-so much to see and do around. Our particular highlights were visiting the towns and villages of La Roque-Gageac, Domme and Sarlat with its many delicious restaurants and fun evening entertainment, canoeing from Vitrac to Beynac and visiting the traditional market at St. Cyprien on a Sunday morning.
The hosts Morgane and Thierry were so lovely-very friendly and welcoming as well as being extremely helpful. We would love to return in the future and would highly recommend to anyone considering a relaxing break in the beautiful Dordogne. Thank you!
