Ritchie Homeplace - A National Historic Site
Summary:
This home has been designated as a National Historic Site & a Kentucky Heritage Home in honor of the work done by Jean Ritchie in the preserving the musical heritage of the region. It offers 6 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, dining room, kitchen, multiple outdoor seating areas & plenty of parking. This home was full of love, laughter, music and family traditions and we hope you discover this for yourself during your visit! And, pets are welcome too!
The Space:
This home was built around 1936 and was the home of the Ritchie Family. In each room you will find framed photos and descriptions of the family, places and events associated with the heritage of the house. This is a large home that will sleep up to 11 people. The front porch is a great place for the adults to sit while the kids play in the large yard. Outside is a nature lovers dream, listen to the crickets, catch fire flies and relax under the stars! There is small creek nearby which provides music of it's own. You will feel like you are going back in time to a place when life was simple and family was everything. Plenty of parking and trucks with trailers are welcome.
Guest Access:
Guests will have the house all to themselves excluding the basement and attic.
The Neighborhood:
The home is located about 2 miles off Hwy 15 south on route 7. It is super easy to get to and GPS will bring you straight to it.
Getting Around:
The road leading to the house is a single lane road that is in great condition. Once you reach the driveway there is plenty of parking for four or more cars.
Other Things to Note:
Airbnb customers agree that they undertake recreational activities in and around the Ritchie Homeplace at their own risk. This property is located in the heart of the mountains so guests need to expect possible visits from wildlife such as insects, snakes, deer, turkeys and even an occasional bear. It is not often that you may see these animals but it is possible. Bears are not aggressive unless provoked and walking in and around the forest at night is not recommended.
There is another home located at the rear of this home and we do rent it to guests as well. The brown house also called the "Dollhouse" has it's own parking and guests enter on the opposite side of this home so you will have privacy from the guests next door.
Interaction with Guests:
I rarely meet guests in person but I am always on duty!
