SO LOUD outside of hotel! ZERO soundproofing! Was so peed and stressed and asked in advance for quiet and got street side! I barely slept and one of my worst sleeps ever. I tried everything to draw out the noises of such idiots outside til 230 am. Was on a move help job and hard to not sleep much and have to drive a big moving truck back to Kelowna area this way. Come on! Finally sound proof the hotel then! It was also told to me this am early that so many leave hotel when this happens and no refunds! Exactly told to me. JUST FIX!

Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
Very noisy street. Bar emptied at 2:30am and singing woke us up. Street cleaners fired up at 4:30am and woke us up. Bed was very hard.
Convenient and close to downtown.
Close proximity to the unhoused but nothing that the hotel can control.
Room was small but sufficient.
Parking is on an outside lot about 100 metres from the hotel.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Rooms were clean. Its an older hotel so it was dated. However, for the price i dont think its worth it compared to other newer hotels. No lotions, extra soaps, face wipes ect. Very minimalistic and basic. Theres a bar/club under the hotel so very busy and loud outfront on a saturday evening. We paid $15 for parking, but there were no parking spots and had to pay to park on the street. The staff did refund me for the parking, so that was nice. Just wish they had more available safe parking for hotel guests. Was quite loud outside the window in the alley way. All in all the room was clean enough for us to rest our heads. Unfortunately, for the price and what you get id much more likely to book somewhere else. The staff were wonderful.
A small hotel in a very convenient location. An old building but thorougly renovated. Strongest point is the quality of the staff. Anja is the queen of receptionists. When my wife had a tooth ache, she was able to suggest a dentist and then, the tooth taken care of, when my wife wanted a hair dresser she directed her to one who did an excellent job. However, in all fairness, when we needed some information about local buses and Anja was not on the desk, one of her colleagues gave us very good service.
There are larger and more recently constructed hotels in the area, but I don't think we would have had the personal attention we had at the Strathcona.
There is a large and very nice pub and restaurant on the ground floor. We had not planned so, but except for breakfast we ate and drank there. Good food and nice staff.
Hotel close to the major downtown tourist attractions.
We found the room just a bit small, but that may have been because we had just left a spacious room in a hotel in Vancouver. Couldn't figure out the heating unit, finally in frustration we just left it off. Possibly due to good insulation we felt perfectly comfortable. Room looked out onto an outside bar a couple of stories lower. It was closed for the season, but in warmer weather noise from the bar might be inconvenient. Never did figure out the coffee machine in the lobby and didn't like sign telling me to give the hotel a five star rating. This side of heaven nothing is perfect.

Anija was great when checking in super helpful and sweet! Will stay here again
Staff were excellent, particularly Anya, who gave us lots of tips on places to eat and how to get around. The hotel is centrally located and very walkable to restaurants, shopping, attractions, and Beacon Hill Park. Highly recommended.
