The Konnarock Homestead is located in the heart of The Jefferson National Forest. Guests can easily visit three beautiful recreation areas (including the two highest peaks in Virgina): Grayson Highlands State Park, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, and Whitetop Mountain. The area provides many beautiful and exciting experiences such as biking the Creeper Trail, hiking the AT, many other trails, and much more! Our pottery shop is located within walking distance to the Homestead if you would like to explore local artisans and there is also a fire pit to enjoy during the night in the Appalachian Mountains!

**Since Hurricane Helene devastated our region, the Creeper Trail is unfortunately inaccessible from Whitetop to Damascus. However, the 17 miles from Damascus to Abingdon is undamaged and is available to ride or hike. Please consider supporting local businesses and communities as we continue to rebuild from this natural disaster**

  • Barter Theatre, located in Abingdon, Virginia, opened on June 10, 1933, when the country was in the middle of the Great Depression. Most patrons were not able to pay the full ticket price. Robert Porterfield, founder of the theatre, offered admittance by letting the local people pay with food goods, hence the name "Barter". The original ticket price for a play was 40 cents, or the equivalent in goods. In 1946, Barter Theatre was designated the State Theatre of Virginia. This was just the perfect stay for our trip to the Blue Ridge Discovery Center event. The home was well provisioned, very clean, and the hosts were communicative and responsive to all our questions. We will definitely be back!!!!

Clean, quite, peaceful

The entire place was spotless. It had the feel of a country cabin with ample furniture and picnic-style flatware. Some of the mugs were handmade at Grimm Pottery - which was the best pottery I've ever seen: sturdy, thin and lightweight, perfectly glazed, artistic. Beds and pillows were comfortable, and towels were plush. The layout was nice with the master bedroom and bath at one end and the other bathroom and two bedrooms at the other end - with the living area in the middle. Hosts were fantastic. There was a storm and the power went out for a bit one afternoon, and they thoughtfully supplied water jugs and battery powered lights. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of pots and pans - and even some bakeware. Highly recommend!

This property is outstanding. Clean, well maintained, and convenient location for our hiking. You must visit the pottery shop which is a real treat. Will rent the next time we are near Damascus VA.

The ABSOLUTE BEST!!

We could not recommend staying at the Konnarock Homestead enough!!! It was an awesome place to stay with a great view of Whitetop. We watched deer every morning and afternon from the front porch, as well as the resident groundhog running around with an apple in his mouth. The place has everything that you need and was VERY clean. The real bonus was meeting the host, Molly, and her family at Grim Pottery at the end of the driveway. Make sure you go check out the killer pottery that Molly and her mother, Mud Maw, are making. We decided before we ever left that we would be back.
