nice comfortable rooms, good value stay. food nice, staff excellent, particularly the reception staff. a bit off the beaten track and awkward to get around with narrow roads. a bit pretentious with the overall formal atmosphere and menus of slight delusions of grandeur. most guests appear to be over age of 80 and that generation i expect would find it more favourable. next generation of 80 year olds may hope for /expect easier access bar area and more informal approach.

all staff ware kind and helpfull. breakfast ware excellent and dinner in the restaurant was also beautifull we have enjoied to stay their however road to hotel was so narrow to drive.

Only go here if you absolutely love dogs
There was a good welcoming letter in our room- suggesting relaxing with a drink on the terrace- this was not possible as several dogs kept barking at each other We could not believe that dogs were allowed in the dining room- a great shame as this is a fine dining restaurant- no point in the chef making all that effort when all you can hear is dogs slurping water and crunching biscuits and barking The ambiance in the restaurant was nil

Beautiful hotel in picturesque quiet location
Wonderful hotel in a beautiful old mansion house with log fire burning in the lounge all day and evening. Very friendly staff who did everything possible to make our stay perfect - our huge thanks to them! Hotel is set amongst beautiful rolling green hills in lovely gardens. The lane to get to the hotel is very long (1 to 2 miles) and narrow with very few passing places but it wouldn't put us off staying there as everything else about the hotel made up for that.

A very comfortable manor house hotel. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed a delicious meal from the bar menu and because it wasn't busy during our stay we dined in the very comfortable blue panelled dining room. Breakfast was included and a wide variety of cooked and buffet food available. Very relaxing and a peaceful nights comfortable sleep.

Stayed at hotel in October in room Jasmine. Torn curtain, dirty tshower tiles, dirt around end of bath where sealant missing, light pull cord black with dirt, toilet roll holder broken ... Access to the hotel is via narrow lanes which could do with more ‘ passing places’ Did not have evening meals as previous comments were poor. Best thing about our stay was the breakfast which is really good. Wouldn’t return.

Beautiful period hotel in a stunning location.
We had a lovely relaxing stay in this beautiful hotel. Everything is well done from the comfortable rooms to the tasty food and the friendly efficient staff. It’s rural location with stunning views make it an excellent choice for a get away from it all holiday.

Nice hotel in the middle of nowhere
Unfortunately when we arrived our booking had been mistakenly cancelled and there was only a room available for one of our booked two nights. The general manager arranged additional accommodation for us covering the difference in price which is gratefully appreciated. Can’t really say much about the hotel apart from it is a lovely period property. They also make a good cup of tea. Can’t fault the staff. They were all very helpful.

Nice hotel, a bit remote with nothing nearby, had to go everywhere by car. Service at breakfast was a little hit and miss. Overall very good but some things let it down. Our TV remote was held together with tape and there are no tissues in the room.

An enjoyable stay.
A hotel with character in lovely surroundings off the tourist trail but close enough to the spectacular walks of the coastal path. We have stayed here several times and will return. Friendly staff and good food.

Nice hotel in quite remote countryside location
Unfortunately we weren't told beforehand that our room was on the top floor - only accessed by stairs (there is no lift). We had some difficulty with this but the hotel receptionist went out of her way to immediately provide us with a (superior) room on the first floor at no extra charge. We really appreciated this. The room was really nice, comfortable and had everything we needed - and more! Our stay was for two nights (on both occasions we had dinner at the hotel). The first night we went for the cheaper option but the plates were cold, two of our party had starters - but the main meals for the other two were delivered at the same time! But a side salad was delivered AFTER the meals were finished! The waiter apologised profusely but it was not what we expected in a hotel of this calibre! The second night we went for the more expensive meal - it was perfect and very tasty. We felt staff (waiter) training is necessary. Nevertheless, all staff were extremely polite and courteous. Breakfasts are to die for! Absolutely perfect. All of that said, the location is beautiful, very peaceful and overall we enjoyed our stay.

A superb hotel in a Regency novel setting.
The location of the hotel is stunning, once of the prettiest settings in Devon. The staff are very welcoming and friendly.
