What I thought was going to be the highlight of my trip to Capitol Reef ended up being one of the worst travel experiences I've ever had.
I decided to splurge on this place for my one night there and had very high expectations. I drove several hours to get there, and arrived in the evening just before it got dark. When I got to the property, there was nobody around, no obvious way to check in, and no instructions anywhere. I was a bit confused on what to do and coincidentally ran into a couple from Germany who were just as confused as I was. Apparently guests are supposed to receive check-in instructions beforehand, but I never received anything of the sort.
To make matters worse, there was basically no cell reception and no Wi-Fi. I couldn't call, message, or look anything up. I ended up having to drive 30min back down the highway just to get enough signal to call and use the internet.
I called the property multiple times and sent messages through Expedia. Nothing. No answer. No callback. No response.
I then contacted Expedia, and even they couldn't get ahold of the property. After spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out what to do, I gave up and booked Capitol Reef Resort.
Here's the really crazy part: a few days later Expedia told me they still had not been able to reach the property, and because of that I was told I couldn't get a refund. What a nightmare of an experience. Avoid this place at all costs if you don't want to risk ruining your trip.
