We went to Komatsuzawa Leisure Park to take part in the Soba Making Class, where you learn how to make soba noodles from scratch. This also includes lunch, where you can eat the soba that you made. It was a lot of fun and would be a great activity for a group of people or a family. Location: Take the train from Ikebukuro Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line to Hanno Station, and from there transfer onto the Seibu Chichibu Line and get off at Yokoze Station. There is a bus that will pick you up at the station and take you to Komatsuzawa Leisure Park, if you call ahead (TEL: +81 0494 24 0412).

Hitsujiyama Park (羊山公園) in Chichibu has an amazing field of Shiba-zakura, or moss phlox. There are nine different types of moss phlox that cover over 17,000 sqm (4.3 acres) of the park. Not only is the scenery amazing, you can enjoy the sweet scent in the air as well! *They are usually in full bloom from late April to the first week of May. *The closest station is Yokoze Station or Seibu Chichibu Station on the Seibu Chichibu Line. There is an extremely steep hill on the way from Seibu Chichibu Station so if you're not up for that or have senior citizens in your party, definitely go from Yokoze Station. It's about 1.5 to 2hrs from Tokyo.
