The Engelberg-Titlis Ski Resort is home to Central Switzerland’s tallest mountain, 10,626-foot (3,239-meter) Mount Titlis. Ride the world’s first revolving cable car to the mountain summit where you can dine at one of several scenic restaurants or explore an eerie ice cave. Glide down the slopes and take advantage of the resort’s excellent backcountry terrain. Tour the town’s historic monastery.

Chapel Bridge is located in the heart of Lucerne and serves as a symbol of Switzerland’s medieval town. Also referred to as Kapellbrücke, the bridge is named after nearby St. Peter’s Chapel. The bridge is famed as an architectural masterpiece, because of its wood construction and iconic covered style. It is the oldest covered bridge in Europe, dating back to the 14th century.

With its picturesque setting and historical significance, the Lion Monument of Lucerne (also called Löwendenkmal) is one of Europe’s most famous sculptures. In many ways, the monument represents European unity; though it sits in Switzerland, it was designed by famous Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, and constructed by German mason Lukas Ahorn.

Since 1959, the Swiss Museum of Transport (also called Verkehrshaus der Schweiz) has been a focal point of Lucerne. The museum takes you on a trip through time, where you can explore the past and future of our world’s transportation methods.

Mt. Uetliberg lies to the southwest of Zurich’s center. At 2,850 feet (868 meters) above sea level, it’s the best spot in the region to enjoy panoramas of the city. You can either spend a short time up the mountain to take some photographs, or dedicate half a day to hiking, cycling or sledding around the area.
