Nikko was horrible and then it was fantastic! Two things can never be beat—amazing staff and amazing surroundings.
Nikko is one of the first resort hotels built on Guam and has been operating for longer than I can remember (at least 30 years), I decided on the Nikko for a 3 day, 2 night staycation with my family. The check-in experience was not the best. It took an hour to get into our room (a triple bed option). The first room was a nightmare. It was in one of the older sections which probably didn’t see a single guest over the 2 yrs that we’ve been in the ongoing COVID state of emergency.
Here is where Nikko shines. The hotel, like many other places on island, is suffering from the lack of tourism—the primary industry for the island. Despite staff shortage, the handful of workers there, from the front desk manager Rommel, to the housekeeping folks, to the life guards, to the restaurant staff—they went out of their way to hospitable. Their outstanding service will always standout in our minds as one of the best that we’ve experienced…and we’ve traveled to many, many places.
We were given a different room and finally got settled 2 hours later. The views from every angle of our room was AMAZING! Also, no mold in the new room😬.
Note—the new pool hours is 9-5 every day. This was a bummer since we didn’t get to use the pool on our first day.
The beach was paradise. Definitely worth every penny and every trouble on check in.
