Staff was very helpful and courteous. The service rendered was excellent. The Hida beef for dinner and breakfast was also very good. We enjoyed our stay.

Nice place although in need of update as everything is quite old and tired and the room was very dark. The area itself is remote and no hiking trails available apart from one on the other side of the river, along the river all the way to the cable car, but it is not used a lot so felt un-used for years with bear traps along the way and very overgrown, so we retreated after a while. Good bus connections to other places but you might need to consider hiring a car. The ryokan has private onsens which was excellent as I have several tattoos and was not allowed in other public places. Food at ryokan was very good and a highlight of the stay. The rating of this ryokan reflects it tired state and remoteness if you are prepared to travel from it and otherwise enjoy a relaxing stay.

Rural setting with incredible meals
We chose this ryokan because of its proximity to Kamikochi, but come to find, it's not a fast/easy trip. It's about half way between Matsumoto and Takayama - 1.5 hrs in each direction, so also not a fast trip. It's an old hotel (I think they plan on renovating soon), with nice, helpful staff, large room, small, hard beds, and incredible meals. I you want to experience a more rural setting in the alps, this is a good place to stop for a night. There's not much to do around the neighborhood.
The dinner and breakast were excellent traditional meals. The private outdoor onsen a great experience. The futon was hard and the rooms slightly shabby.

Bien.
What I want to say is, you can’t find any hotel at this price with private onsen (public area) with can go with your kids. They also serve very nice dinner and breakfast which is included the in the hotel charges or FOC since the price is reasonable or consider cheap in Japan.
This place is amazing! I could not believe how welcoming and friendly the staff was. The staff made the experience even better. They are incredibly helpful. The food is incredible!!! I recommend halfboard with your reservation. The onsen is fantastic and the rooms are very clean. I highly recommend booking here.
The meals were fabulous! The chef is an very old man who cooks very delicious Japanese style dishes. I stayed here for two nights. The two dinners were the best meals that I ever had during this trip! Even I had been very full already, I couldn't stop eating and finished all dishes as I did not want to waste any piece of food. I will definitely to stay in this hotel for his meals again!
The hotel is a bit old and definitely needs refurbishment. The staff told us they are going to carry out refurbishment in Jun 2018. Hope this can improvement the overall living quality.
Two young girls can speak good English that made my stay easier.
The outside hot spring bath is surrounded by buildings and gates. Not much open view but there are a small maple tree and azalea tree which gives the bath enjoyable.
Finally, all of the staff who have served us came out and said goodbye to us. It was my first experience and amazing! I would definitely remember them forever!
