Quirky property with complete self check-in using codes and key boxes. Room (St Albans) roomy and bathroom well appointed. WiFi worked well. Bit of a lack of surfaces - desk would have been nice. Great location - but town is uphill!

I have to stay in St Albans for work from time to time and Torrington Hall is my favourite place to stay. It has so much more character than some of the soulless hotels I have stayed at in the area. It is well located for the town center and the cathedral. The rooms are generally well presented although, because each is different, some are nicer than others. My personal favourite is St Michael's. The rooms are always clean and the beds are super comfy. Parking is never an issue despite being so close to the center of town. Overall a lovely place to stay in St Albans.

The building was very clean and is really pretty. The location was ideal, being a stone's throw from the high street. Check in was very easy, and the ambience of the place was wonderful. However, we were really disappointed at the facilities in the kitchen area. It was described as being self catering, but the microwave wouldn't work and there were no pans to allow for cooking on the oven rings. Also, we found the bed in the St Albans room to be very uncomfortable, and the noise from the Cathedral bells chiming on the night along with the traffic on the road made for a disturbed nights sleep. Whilst I appreciate you cannot help this outside noise, I think it is important to declare it on the website so guests can make an informed decision before they book.

Large comfortable room, very walkable for St Alban's. Unfortunately the kettle in the room was unusable due to it leaking badly & the microwave did not to work.

Lovely spacious room complements the great location and access to the high street and Cathedral. On-site parking is a big plus. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Tired but convenient for city centre

Very convenient location. Very stark and impersonal. Some noise from the road and communal kitchen. Very tired decor. Window cracked, windows very grubby and mouldy, shower needs replacing.

It's a lovely well kept Victorian with beautiful interiors. I would have appreciated additional table tops or shelving for travel gear. I would definitely stay here again.

Brilliantly located, easy to access, clean, comfortable and with all the amenities we wanted. Only minor grumble was creaky floorboards so noise from the people walking about in the room above and doesn’t have a breakfast option but there are plenty of restaurants in the area.

The good: good location, easy parking, nice big bedroom, cathedral view The not so good: small bathroom (St Alban - have stayed in other rooms here with bigger bathrooms), only one chair, everything feels a little bit tired and dated, one might be forgiven for expecting more for the premium prices being charged!

Great room. Lumpy bed

Really nice apartment set in a lovely building. The room was spacious and well equipped with a small fridge and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There was a shared kitchen also which was well equipped. The bed however was possibly the luckiest bed I’ve ever slept on.

Beautiful Georgian house with lovely spacious rooms. Added bonus of use of the kitchen so I could cater for myself. The one drawback is that it is on a main road and as my room was at the front of the property it was very noisy

Boutique and modern rooms

A lovely boutique hotel (basically renovated rooms in a historic mansion). Rooms were comfortable and modern. Had a mini fridge in each room (which is rare), and access to a shared kitchen area for cooking etc. which was handy. Could do with some facial tissues in the room. Other than that, the check in/out process was contact-free and fuss-free. Would stay again in future!

Loved the location! As a solo female staying there, I would have liked windows with better and working locking mechanisms (one was broken altogether and neither of them were very sturdy) as well as better lighting around the property at night. Since it was summer, windows needed to be open for air circulation but need a way to lock them in open position thats better. Everything else was fine.
