I was in AK to run a trail race (Resurrection Pass 50) and wanted a centrally located base of operations on the Kenai Peninsula. Tammy & Joe’s place worked out perfectly. We stayed here 5 nights and travelled all over from Hope to Homer from here.
Located 18 miles outside of Soldotna, the cabin met my father & my needs wonderfully. We got lucky with the timing as Tammy and Joe were there during our visit. We met them at checkin & mentioned that we weren’t big fisherman but we were going to try our hand at salmon fishing. Joe offered to take us down later and demonstrate the yarn on a hook technique. Wow! Pops landed 2 reds & I landed 1 (Joe caught and released at least 8). We felt like we had our own private fishing guide. So much fun and we’ve had 2 dinners from our catch & have still more in the freezer.
The cabin is a newer build & is well equipped to meet your needs. Space is a bit limited so instead of a stove there are 2 induction hot plates to cook on. I was able to cook myself an omelet & bacon the morning before my trail race. I noticed another reviewer had trouble with the hot water. It’s a tankless heater so if it cuts out just adjust the shower handle to hotter water and it’ll pick right back up. If you’re worried about sunlight late into the Summer night, the bedroom has no windows to allow sleep in pitch black conditions. There’s also plenty of storage under the bed for your all your luggage.
Tammy and Joe are honestly the best hosts I’ve encountered thru VRBO and similar sites. Warm and friendly, they’ll engage with you as much or as little as you like. Great communication from start to finish by Tammy and she was so responsive to our needs. For anyone traveling to this part of Alaska, I can highly recommend any accommodations offered by them.
