About this property
Escape To The Country In Comfort And Style In An Eco-Friendly House
Have you ever wanted to have the quiet and solitude of being in the rolling countryside away from the stress of the city but still have all the comforts of a modern, luxurious house with a porch and rocking chairs to sit on while you commune with nature and watch the world go by? This 3 bedroom, 2 bath house on a working farm has all of this while being only 1 hour's drive from downtown Kansas City (45 minutes drive from World's of Fun, Oceans of Fun, and MCI airport), 20 minutes drive from St. Joseph Missouri and Missouri Western State University, 15 minutes drive from Atchison Kansas and Benedictine College, 15 minutes from Snow Creek Skiing, and 40 minutes drive from Fort Leavenworth Kansas. The house has 1 large bedroom with ensuite bathroom and two other large bedrooms with a shared bath, wood-burning fireplace, large front porch, large open plan kitchen, dining room, and all of the modern conveniences that you'd expect from a house that is less than 20 years old. If it's peace and quiet that you're after then this place is what you're looking for. It's a half-mile from the state highway on the top of a big hill so you have a panaramic degree view in all directions. The house is ideal for watching sunrises and sunsets but if you want to keep current on everything happening in the rest of the world then you can connect to the Wi-Fi. Bed linen, pillows, and towels are provided for all 3 bedrooms. Our guest safety is always one of our top priorities and the house has a full basement with a concrete floor and walls that is accessed via a staircase through the laundry room. In the event of a storm or tornado warning guests can go to the basement and be safe until the storm passes. The basement also has a separate secure outside walkout staircase with a steel door that provides an exit directly away from the house into the yard in case of a catastrophic weather event. We recently added solar panels to harvest the sun's free electrical energy and we feel good that we're doing everything we can to lower our house's use of commercial electricity that is generated using coal in this area. The panels are held in place by ground-mounted racks that are several meters away from the house and there are photos of the installation on this site.

We had an absolute great time staying here! The house was clean, and had everything we needed. The kids LOVED looking for the cows, and seeing them outside. We would definitely stay here again!
If you are looking for a place to just kick back and relax this is it. This is a very nice house in a beautiful location. Quiet and secluded with very few sounds of civilization to be heard.
We loved our stay at this beautiful family farmhouse. One tip I have is to include in description that the house is at the end of the driveway of the host’s property. We loved watching the cattle each day and enjoyed seeing the sunset on the front porch. The house was perfect for us! Thanks for a great stay.
My family and I loved our stay! The views from the house were amazing and so peaceful. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Sunrise and sunset are so beautiful from the covered porch and we enjoyed sitting on the rocking chairs. The friendly cows came to visit too!
I highly recommend this property!
We never needed to contact the host for anything. They even plowed the driveway and cleaned the sidewalk off before we arrived. Secluded setting and less than 20 minutes to Snowcreek.
Our family loved staying at this home. We were in the area to visit a convent in Gower, MO and to see family nearby. The host was very welcoming and easy to communicate with. The home was clean and very comfortable and had everything we needed to cook and relax at the end of the day. The location is rural and so peaceful with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We really didn’t want to leave and hope to come back sometime in the future.
When visiting the Atchison/St. Joe area this is the place to stay. It is very well appointed with everything needed to make for an enjoyable stay.
It's located about fifteen minutes from the Benedictine College campus. When traveling to Atchison it is worth a visit to the newly opened Amelia Earhart Hanger Museum located on the Atchison Airport grounds.
We have plans to make our fourth visit to this residence next summer.
My Family and I had a great stay. We were more comfortable than we would have been a Hotel. The Hostess was responsive and friendly. The home was roomy. We loved the cows. You will never see this many stars at night. Large Kitchen area and dining room table. We spent the majority of our time cooking and playing games in this space. The location was definitely off the beaten path but close to family for us. Weston Missouri, Atchison Kansas and St. Joseph Missouri are within a hop skip and a jump. Groceries and sight seeing are therefor a simple affair.I would recommend this particular Escape to anyone looking to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Urban life. Also, surprisingly, the cell service is outstanding. There is a cell tower within a mile of the place.Have a great day.
This host and the property has earned all of the 5 star reviews it has received. The pictures are accurate as well as the amenities.
It was a wonderful quiet stay. My family truly enjoyed our time there. It was clean, and everything worked perfectly. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed eating our meals at the table that looked out on the pasture. My grandson enjoyed watching the cows. I would highly recommend staying here.
We stayed here when taking our oldest to college. It was an emotional time for us all and the beautiful location and wonderful host made our trip one that left wonderful, lasting memories! The home was well stocked and so comfortable…the kitchen, beds, front porch, living room area, etc! We enjoyed several days of care free family time, exploring the farm, sitting on the front porch watching the cows, our kids loved the dog up the road, and the sunrise and sunset are too beautiful for words! Jany was so helpful with everything! We will definitely be back! Thank you for such a wonderful stay!
This place was absolutely beautiful! My husband and I needed a little getaway and went to state parks and did the museums in St. Joseph. We could hardly wait to be done for the day to sit on the front porch. We watched the sunsets and then the sunrise in the mornings.
Everything was clean and the house is very spacious for more than two people. The property is immaculate.
I would come here again to disconnect from everything. It was so quiet and peaceful. I loved our getaway here!
we have stayed at this wonderful house on the hill about a year ago and did so again to drop of our daughter at Benedictine College. Like before we were welcomed by Jany with the house just ready to go. We needed a lot of space because my daughter does not travel tight an there was plenty. We also got to experience nature, the breeze and beautiful sunsets and the cows coming around. just awesome. We love this place.
We stayed at this gorgeous location because we were moving our daughter to Benedictine College as a freshman and we wanted to be comfortable with all the luggage and things we bought. We were also meeting with friends that were driving in and certainly wanted a place we could all hang out. Wow, not only was this house spacious but the views in the daytime, the beautiful sunset and the stars at night. We were extremely happy. Thank you so much. We look forward to going back 😊
Our family decided to start a new tradition this year and vacation for Christmas instead of presents and Christmas trees. And we couldn’t be happier with the choice we made. The house and property were a beautiful and peaceful experience. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely rent again next time we come to the area. We originally rented this property because it was so close to snow creek and we planned on skiing, but Mother Nature didn’t cooperate with those plans. So we made the short drive into Kansas City and found lots to do even on Christmas Eve. This is definitely a 5 star property!
I can’t say enough about our stay at this property! The home is spacious and well furnished and feels like a family home rather than a sterile commercial unit. The home is located on a working cattle ranch and my family was greeted every morning with adorable baby and mother cows at the gate. In every direction the view is stunning and while the home is only a 15 minute drive to the town of Atchison you will feel like you’re hidden away with only the sounds of nature surrounding you.
While we stayed at the home we cooked nightly meals in the well equipped kitchen, grilled burgers under the stars and even roasted smores on the bonfire.
David was very quick to respond to my messages and was very accommodating to our requests. The onsite host,Jany, who lives down the road really made us feel welcomed and went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable at all times.
This home is now the only place I will want to stay when visiting the area!!
We had a wonderful experience during our stay in this home and we will definitely be renting this location again when we return to MO.First of, communication with both David and Jany Thomas were amazing! They responded to our questions as well as updates during our stay. The home itself was very clean when we arrived and a lot more spacious than what we expected and what the pictures shows. The appliances are updated and works well. There is speedy wifi and phone-data signal does reach the farm. That said, expect to bring some food /snacks when you get here because there are only a few delivery places that will do so.This said, being in the middle of farm-country was a great experience that we will definitely return too. Fun fact, at night, when the skies are clear, you can see a lot of stars - an experience we have yet to have living in the suburbs of FL! We were lucky that our first night here was on the night of the lunar eclipse and the blood moon...it was beautiful! My friends and I just laid on the grass in front of the fenced-in home and watch the whole process. Even the other two nights that we were there, you can still see the stars so clearly. In addition, seeing the cows during the day was a fun sight to see.Overall a relaxing experience and definitely recommend!
