The “Meng zu Niffenau”—as the Menkenbauer was known back then—has existed since 1691, initially as just a small farm. In 1753, the Elector appointed “Mengg” as the innkeeper of Ruhpolding. From that time on, it served as a resting place for the “Hölzer,” who used horses to transport wood for salt barrels over the Jochberg to Reichenhall, the ducal salt works. The original preserved Lüftel paintings on the historic farmhouse also date from this period. In 1837, the farm was purchased by Josef Oberhauser and has been run by the family ever since—now in its sixth generation. Guests were first accommodated as early as 1937, at that time by Maria and Josef Maier, who served as mayor of Ruhpolding for twenty years. In 1950, the sawmill was built and served as a source of income alongside farming and the small lodging business. In 1952, Touropa sent the first special trains to Ruhpolding, marking the beginning of tourism. Initially, only simple rooms in the farmhouse and Haus Anneliese were rented out, until the guesthouse was built in 1970.

Our cozy ground-floor apartment, “Rauschberg 3,” offers approximately 40 m² of living space and can accommodate 2 adults and up to 2 small children.
