A characterful stone cottage tucked away on the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye, set within beautifully kept grounds, with a full mile of private River Wye fishing reached through the fields for anglers. Perfect for fishing breaks, weekend retreats and anyone who wants to properly switch off in one of England's most picturesque river valleys. Sleeps 4 across 2 bedrooms.
The Space:
Step inside and you'll find a cottage that looks like it belongs to the countryside and feels like a proper home. The exterior is all original stone — thick walls, dormer windows, climbing roses — but inside it's been finished to a modern standard so you've got everything you need without sacrificing any of the charm.
Sweeping lawns, mature trees and hedgerows frame the property on all sides. Anglers can reach the fishery through the fields. The Wye is one of England's finest rivers for coarse fishing, and the main reason most guests come here.

PRIVATE RIVER FISHING — THE HIGHLIGHT
The landlord owns Wye Lea Fishery — a full mile of private fishing rights along the bank of the River Wye, reached directly from the cottage through the fields. It's a special stretch of water, particularly around the Backney Bridge pillars, where the old stone railway structures create an aerated current that draws fish and makes for exceptional sport.
The Wye is particularly famous for its barbel. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting into fishing, this kind of private access is increasingly rare on the river.
A few things to know before you cast:
- A valid coarse fishing rod licence is required — buy one from the Environment Agency website before you arrive.
- Please contact us in advance if you're planning to fish so we can confirm availability — a maximum of 15 people can fish the stretch on any given day.
- There is a day ticket charge for the fishery, which we'll confirm when you get in touch.
- Staying 3 nights or more? You'll receive 50% off the day ticket charge.
