「First the good. Great location (probably the best in Whitby.) Friendly staff, clean large bedroom, good breakfast, comfy bed with nice bedding. Great Quirky old building. Unfortunately, the bad.. when we arrived the whole building had the overwhelming smell of cooking oil. Even into the bedroom. I am pleased to state that the aroma eventually dispersed by morning. I believe that the management should address this issue urgently. Otherwise everything very good.」

One night stay in family room which was perfectly set out with kids feeling like they had their own room and we had a good space to ourselves aswell to relax while they were sleeping. The staff were very friendly and accommodating letting us grab drinks from the bar and take to room. Even opened us a bottle of our own wine to take up!! 「This is above a pub 2 minutes from the station. Eaglescliffe is a nice place to stay though there isn't much around the station to look at. The hotel is a bit basic but clean and good value for money.」

「Room was modern, clean and comfortable. Ensuit was spacious. Unfortunately we found the shower to be very hot and didn’t know how to turn it down (it was turned all the way to the coldest option). But to be fair, we didn’t ask for any help with it, so it could have been a simple fix. We hadn’t really thought through staying above a pub. 「A lovely stay at the Royal Oak for one night. Very friendly and attentive staff. They were more than happy to arrange late access to the property due to us having to return to the room late at night. Breakfast was excellent, with options for full English or kippers, plus plenty of toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt. The car park is very small, and can't accommodate all vehicles, however there is ample parking on the road at the front of the property. The room was comfortable with clean linens....

「When we checked in, we did not stay in the actual Queen Catherine. Instead they walked us across the street to the three tuns hotel. I'm guessing it's part of it but they don't really make that known while booking. Otherwise it was a good stay and nice accommodation. Breakfast was good. 」
