Really great amenenties with the sauna, hot tub and bikes. Room and bathrooms clean. Wall are thin so heard a lot of walking around and movement but the hotel does a good job of strongly reminding everyone to be quiet during sleeping hours and everyone was curteous about that. Great location. Nice staff and early drop off of luggage was allowed which was helpful.

We enjoyed our stay for 2 nights in Queenstown. The location was close to the Queenstown gardens and to many nice restaurants and shopping. We also rented bikes from the hostel and biked all around the Frankton Arm. The hot tub and outdoor seating were a bonus as well!

The Black sheep backpackers was incredible. The staff are friendly and professional. The facilities were excellent. The dorm rooms are clean with ample storage and a privacy curtain. The beds were comfortable and warm during the winter season. The kitchen has everything you could need to prepare your meals. There is good storage for food in the fridge and a place for dry goods. The hot tub and sauna are real assets. Great after a day skiing biking or hiking or just to relax. Above all, the highlight to this property is the people you meet. All ages and backgrounds are welcome and mingle to share experiences and make new memories. Don’t hesitate. Book this hostel. You won’t be disappointed. 😊

Private room was good size and comfortable, but there was nowhere to hang a towel. Would’ve been good to have a socket by the bed and a lamp in the room. Hostel itself has nice facilities - good kitchen for cooking, big communal lounge area which always has someone in it, outdoor tables, clean bathrooms and showers. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is close to town but a short walk up a hill. There were a lot of long term stays which did make the social vibe a bit different and maybe not so geared towards solo travellers just passing through for a few days, although everyone I spoke to was really nice.

When booking our reservation, there were definitely a few potentially concerning reviews, but frankly I have to wonder if those people understood they were booking at a hostel. The overall experience was quite good -- my partner and I stayed in one of the private rooms and while it was a nice stay. Bed was quality, good black-out blinds for the windows. Heater was very effective. Helpful friendly staff. Objectively, the fact that you have to go outside and walk a bit to access the bathroom and the bathroom needs a keycode to enter becomes a bit annoying, but you do not need your phone to enter the bathroom as one reviewer seemed to think.

Black sheep is a friendly, well-maintained and very professional outfit, offering a great facility for budget-conscious travellers. The location is excellent but parking is a hassle as it is on-street. The best time to find a space is around 5.00 p.m. The staff are delightful and the beds are very comfortable. I would definitely come back.

Hi, I don’t usually like to write bad reviews on any place that I have stayed but I have never stayed in such a badly run down place and all being it was the most expensive accommodation of my 3 weeks travelling around New Zealand. When we arrived we got given a room right next door to the laundry room and the shower block was on my other side. As soon as we entered our room, you could smell quite a bad odour and then I noticed that they had a portable humidifier switched on in the corner. Plus it could do with a fresh lick of paint. The shower/toilet facilities consisted of 2 toilets which had no lights, 2 showers along with 2 sinks in a very tiny space. In the morning it was busy and not well suited to the place. But the worst thing of all was our room temperature, it was literally like an icebox and I asked if we could have some heating on, as it was still September and it had been snowing, I was told it was on a timer and it didn’t come on until evening time. I’m so sorry to have to do this but 4/5 is way of the mark and I would recommend visitors to look elsewhere before booking into this accommodation. Sept 2026

Loud with issues - Very Nice staff

Super nice staff in a convenient area. Unfortunately noise was a frequent issue- be it door slamming, drinking, people wrestling at night, blasting music etc. Broken hot tub not fixed the week I was there, kitchen burners not working well, Wi-Fi unable to keep up with the demand on it. The staff are quite helpful and really pleasant- the accommodation is lacking in many areas unfortunately so I cannot recommend it overall.

Although there were 2 bathrooms I found them to not have enough hanging space, bathroom benches were small and often wet to put anything on. Had to use toilet paper to wipe dry, no paper towels. The second shower offered no privacy to change or dress or shelf to put shampoo etc on

Le logement super, le personnel très agréable et très efficace ! par contre, le problème ce sont les autres voyageurs : j'ai vérifié, il est noté interdiction de fumer... ce n'est pas respecté... le logement oui est propre mais on ne peut pas en dire pareil de certains autres voyageurs (alors oui on a dû mal tomber très certainement...) ils laissent la cuisine dans un état que je trouve non respectueux (l'évier sale comme les tables, la vaisselle non rangée) et alors la nuit on a eu droit aux cris, ils ont dû taper dans je ne sais trop quoi, ils se sont disputés quand ce n'était pas les portes qui claquaient (il y a pourtant un truc qui ralentit la porte car on a essayé de faire claquer la nôtre... il faut le vouloir...) et les bruits de pas... alors samedi soir je veux bien que les gens sortent, rentrent à n'importe quelle heure, mais on y a eu aussi droit dimanche, lundi et mardi (mercredi ça a été la dispute...à 2h du matin... ) et jeudi on partait : nous on a essayé de porter nos valises pour ne pas trop faire de bruit à 5h du matin et là on croise en partant 3 jeunes femmes qui entrent en fumant et parlant comme si on était en pleine journée... c'est vraiment dommage ; l'établissement est plus que très bien situé (ah pour le parking oui on peut se garer devant mais encore faut il trouver de la place... pas si simple tout le temps; s'il fallait y revenir ce serait en taxi mais pour aller visiter Arrowtown ou être libres on préfère avoir une voiture) et le personnel génial
