The Big Texan Motel

"Clean room, good shower. Sink area of bathroom very visible if room entry door is open so keep that in mind. No blackout curtains if that is your thing. Pool looked great. We really liked the kitschy theming of the motel and restaurant. Dislikes: seems the Big Texan Restaurant has dipped its toe into the hotel business with a nice building but the current model of 'remote' staffing isn't the best. I'm fine with online check in for a room door code.Your option for a front desk is a remote phone number which is the same number for the restaurant and other Big Texan ventures. No front desk staff overnight nor either of the two mornings we were there. Phone receptionist (after working through the various prompts) told us someone would not be at the front desk to help until noon! We were told we would be contacted to resolve our need but we were never contacted nor was the need resolved."

"Our stay at this canyon-side house was unforgettable. Waking up to sweeping views of Palo Duro Canyon, sipping coffee on the deck as the sun painted the rock formations gold—pure magic. The home was spacious, comfortable, and perfectly located for visiting the park. We can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!I suggest waking early and watch the sunrise each morning. You won’t likely find a better sunrise than this one."

"It was the perfect place for us to be. The view was excellent at sunrise. A few longhorn cattle visited us late one evening. We had our privacy from other guests, too. The cabin was furnished with everything we needed to be comfortable. Very good use of every space! Would highly recommend a stay, especially if you plan to attend the musical “Texas” which is performed down in Palo Duro Canyon in the summer months. Outstanding performance and extra special as the play is celebrating its 60th year of entertainment. And The Sad Monkey Mercantile is located adjacent to the property giving access to groceries and ice and a small cafe for meals if you choose not yo cook."
