"The hotel is very nice on the inside, but the area outside looks derelict. Also my own fault, but the area is not close to the major Nikko areas, it took us about 2 hours to get to the Kegon Waterfall, or about an hour to the Toshogu Shrine with trains that came hourly. I wanted to explore the Nikko National Park but wasn't really able to complete that part of the trip. However, if you want a relaxing trip from Tokyo, this is a great place to go. "This is lovely hotel and has a little shared onsen we used for our 2 nights of stay. It is quiet and peaceful as not alot of guest when we checked in. We had a restful stay. The hotel personnel were always polite and helpful. Arigato!! It has good location just opposite the world heritage shrines. Highly recommended.👍"

"After 7 days of busy touring around Tokyo this was exactly what we needed! Being surrounded by the lush green hills was lovely. The accommodation was great, we opted for a Japanese style room and it was wonderful. While we were enjoying the fantastic buffet our room was transformed with futons. The food was amazing, something for every taste, my teen sons had a wonderful time trying many different dishes over our stay. "

"This property was lovely. We stayed in two balcony rooms with private balcony baths and it was brilliant to sit in the bath and watch the river go by. The food (we had dinner and breakfast) was great, particularly the dinner. All the hotel staff were attentive and polite, helping us with anything we needed. Close walk to the nearby shrine and temple complex. "

"Closed to lighting exhibition as you can walk. Lobby was terrific but room was not like that. I stayed a night in Japanese styled room, it was stinky once I opened the door. There’s no restaurant to walk-in unless you not reserve hotel’s board. The only nearby restaurant was Yuba udon. It was very delicious but I preferred meat 😂"

"This property has seen better days. My single room was like a prison cell, just 1.5 meters wide. There was no view. The food was of very low quality but beer and sake were all you can drink for 70 minutes. There are no room amenities. You have to pick them up in the lobby, even the yukata. The outdoor and regular baths are on different floors which is very strange. The clientele is mostly retirees and they seemed happy enough."

"It is a very small hotel in a very quiet small town. We didn't feel very impressed when we first saw the hotel. After we checked in and went to our onsen, it was so amazing and then our fantastic dinner. It was Wows!!! Everything was so perfect, relaxing and so peaceful. We also felt in love with the town. It was so peaceful and didn't want to leave. It worth every afford to get there. Love love it so so much!!!"

"Rakuten villa nikko is like my dreamhouse. Everything you can possibly need are provided. The villa itself makes for a perfect vacation villa with breakfast on the lanai, beautiful TV and sofa area, wonderful setting, sauna and onsen bath. The relaxation area outside the bath smells like you are in the forest! My only complaint would be the checkin email which was never sent. As we need it to get inside the villa. If it was sent automatically, everything would be perfect."

"We absolutely loved staying at the cottage! Yoshiko is an incredible host, going above and beyond in every way to make sure you have a comfortable stay. She picked us up from the train station and dropped us off, and spent time explaining the history, culture, and sights to see in Nikko. "Beautiful and well designed interior. Great value for money. Only downsides are the location and lack of restaurant at the hotel. You have to take a bus or taxi to town (1,500 yen). I would highly recommend this place despite the shortcomings. "

"The hotel is very nice on the inside, but the area outside looks derelict. Keep in mind that Taxi cabs from the Station are about 1600 Yen but they do offer a 200 Yen bus that you can arrange beforehand. "

"Good spot. We had an all ages group and the teens loved having their very own rooms for a few days. The organization of the hotel was very thoughtful for both Japanese and English-speaking tourists. Eg long list of stuff you can borrow in case you forgot, tea and coffee always available in lobby, robes and slippers, laundry machines (which we didn’t try). Very convenient to buses and trains. Beautiful views of the mountains surrounding Nikko from our rooms."
