The original house on the site, Tui Cottage sits quietly among native bush at Okere Falls with tree ferns and cabbage trees right up to the deck rail. Timber ceilings, stained glass and a bay window sunroom give it real character, and the whole place is set up for two couples or a small family who want the Kaituna on their doorstep.

Bedroom 1 (ground floor): Queen bed, doors opening to the deck
Bedroom 2 (upstairs): Super king bed under the gable, timber floors
Sleeps 4 in total. All bedding and linen supplied.
- YOGA AND RELAXATION ROOM -
The third room upstairs is set up as a yoga and relaxation space rather than a bedroom - mat, roller and exercise ball, a desk under the dormer window, and bush views on two sides. Handy as a quiet corner to work from as well.
- BATHROOMS -
One bathroom on the ground floor with a shower and vanity, plus a separate toilet alongside the laundry.
- LIVING AREA -
The living room, kitchen and bathroom are all on the ground floor. The lounge is carpeted and warm with a heat pump, a TV, and a sunroom nook with floor cushions off to one side. French doors open straight out to the private deck. The dining table seats six, and the kitchen sits just beyond it - white cabinetry, timber ceiling, electric oven and hob, dishwasher, and windows looking into the bush.
- OUTDOOR AREA -
This is the part guests remember. A small covered porch with the BBQ sits off the living room, opening onto a wide uncovered deck and a brick and paver courtyard. Tree ferns, cabbage trees and native bush surround the whole thing, so it feels completely private.
- LAUNDRY -
Washing machine, tub and drying space, next to the separate toilet.
- PARKING -
Off-street parking on the sealed driveway, straight off Okere Road.
Guest Access:
Guests have the whole cottage to themselves - both bedrooms, the yoga and relaxation room, living room, kitchen, bathroom, separate toilet, laundry, the decks and courtyard, and the off-street parking. It is yours for the stay.
The Neighborhood:
Okere Falls is a small bush settlement on the Kaituna River, about twenty minutes north of Rotorua on the road to Tauranga. It is best known for the Ōkere Falls Scenic Reserve track, which drops through native bush to the Tutea Falls lookout and the old hydro tunnel, and for the rafting - the Kaituna has the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world. From the cottage you can walk down to the river and cross the footbridge to the Okere Store, Rotorua Rafting and Rotorua Ziplining. The Okere Falls Store, with its craft beer garden and live music, is a local institution. Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotorua are both minutes away, and the Rotorua attractions - Skyline Gondola & Luge, Zorb, Canopy Tours, Polynesian Spa, Wai Ariki Spa, Te Puia and the Redwoods Forest - are all an easy drive.
Getting Around:
You will want a car here. Off-street parking is on the sealed drive at the cottage. Rotorua Airport is about 15 minutes east along the lake, Ngongotaha and the Zorb, Skyline Gondola & Luge and Canopy Tours are around 20 minutes, and central Rotorua with Polynesian Spa and Wai Ariki Spa is about 22 minutes. Te Puia and the Redwoods Forest are roughly 25 minutes. Heading the other way, Tauranga and the Mount are about an hour.
Other Things to Note:
WIFI runs at around 250 Mbps. The cottage is the original house on the site and sits down among native bush, so expect birdsong early and a bit of a step down from the driveway. The third upstairs room is a yoga and relaxation room, not a bedroom - the cottage sleeps 4 across the two bedrooms.
