Find numerous ways to explore Okefenokee Swamp Park. Take a self-guided walk along the park’s network of boardwalks and discover the rich variety of plants growing in the swamplands. Check out aquatic mosses, carnivorous plants, exquisite ferns and pond cypresses.

Guided boat tours follow old Seminole Indian routes and pass some of the park’s highlights. Your guide will point out native plants and wildlife. If you visit during spring or summer, look for superb water lilies in flower. To explore the park on dry land, ride the replica railway on board the Lady Suwannee, the Swamp Park Train.

Visit the park’s 90-foot (27-meter) observation tower for a spectacular panoramic overview of the swamplands. Snap photographs of the lush green canopy. Other park highlights include the Pioneer Island Homestead, which demonstrates how people lived in this region during the 19th century. The homestead features a museum with local history exhibits. Kids will enjoy a visit to the Nature Center and Serpentarium, showcasing some of the park’s native animals. Join one of the daily talks and reptile shows to learn about snakes, turtles and alligators from the park’s animal keepers.

Stop at the park’s gift shop for souvenirs and local produce, including honey. At the park’s snack shack, have gator burgers or frog legs, as well as other snacks and refreshments.
