Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Hot and loud old hotel
We booked to stay at this hotel for the Midmar Mile weekend. We were impressed with the hotel phoning us in advance to see if we wanted to book meals as this was a busy event weekend.
We thought we booked two rooms with breakfast - and our booking said that breakfast and wifi were included but according to the hotels records we paid for room only. We called Hotels.com prior to checking in to clarify but ended up paying for the breakfasts and hoping for a refund.
The hotel has some charm - but there are drawbacks to staying in a really old hotel. These include no aircon, no fridges in rooms, no bottled water and bathrooms that have seen better days. A small fan was provided but it barely helped. Our room was also above a very noisy bar which made it difficult to sleep.
We ate one dinner and breakfasts at the hotel and these were good.
We asked for a late check out on the day of the race but this was not given - not even for one room out of the four our group booked. This is a pity because our friends who we booked with had been given a late checkout on their previous visit which allowed for a shower after swimming across a dam and then travelling home. Next year we will probably look for something cooler, quieter and with staff that aims to be more accommodating.
Due to my booking on this website, my room booking was predetermined. Only when booking out we were told there were better options, well too late. Because of the booking through “Hotels.com” The Nottingham Road Hotel Management just said 'so sorry' you booked through this website. This is no excuse as they paid your website to advertise, bad job.
Not going into detail, but sorry does not cut it any longer and we will no longer support bookings through this website. Another issue is the pictures of The Nottingham Road Hotel Management, I booked because of the room pictures, well, you failed to mention Room 4 is next to the gents’ toilets, and on two busy nights, you will hear the gents serenading their profits being flushed down the drain.
So for a romantic weekend away, I cannot recommend either of the service providers.

I stayed 1 night at the Hotel in the beg of Dec 2021 on a stop over from KZN to Jhb with my son.
So we decided again after our holiday with my wife and son, for the 16/17 Jan 2022 on our return drive from KZN to Jhb to stay overnight and booked on line for 3 people. (The offer with a 2nd room).
We were booked into the Garden units 18/19.
they only had showers. - no bath
The shower in our unit 19 was impossible to get the water temp correct. Had to continually fiddle with the mixer.
Also the water splashes out onto the bathroom floor.
So overall was not enjoyable.
The only good thing was the excellent Lambshanks we had in the resturant.

Old hotel. Got an email after the stay to say that we owed money even though the entire stay was prepaid. Very average

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Clean but needs some love.
Staff super friendly. Rooms are clean but definitely needs some attention. Bathrooms were clean, but old.
Bed clean and comfortable, but needs some upgrades.
Very noisy over the weekend with the Pub downstairs.
Location is brilliant though, close to all the major sites in the area.
This hotel is steeped in history and that is why we chose to stay there. The garden suites are spacious and were recently renovated. We only ate breakfast there - they offered a wide range of hot dishes. Staff were friendly and the hotel is ideally situated to explore the Midlands Meander without breaking the bank.
Great Hotel fro the Nittingham Road area - had lovely breakfasts - within walking distance of the Junction and a couple of restaurants in the area - and then a good central spot to meander through the midlands. Lively bar in the eveinngs
The most uncomfortable pillows I have experienced in any hotel room anywhere. Shower was designed without a door and water splashed onto the badly. Bedside lighting was very poor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were adequate but were rather limited in selection. We had a reasonable meal there one evening. Wonderful pub, got a taste of local life.
Overnighted on Christmas day, so didn't spend much time at the hotel, but the staff were very friendly and we had good service, and a delicious breakfast the following day.
