Let me first say the Bahamas, the accommodations and the people are amazing. We spent many months planning and prepping for this trip. My husband is an avid fly fisherman and he looked forward to spending several days catching fish in one of the most notable places on earth to bonefish. He bought special equipment, tied flies for weeks, watched videos and read reviews from all the people who came before us raving about the fishing opportunities. Unfortunately, the weather prevented this from happening. Zona took him out for half a day before the rain and wind nixed the excursion but not before he caught one fish. This would be the only day and only fish caught. Disappointing.
What wasn't disappointing is the beautiful beach house, the lovely people we met and Zona himself. Zona picked us up at the airport, took us shopping and brought us to the property. There was a little mix up with us being placed in the wrong beach house. Zona brought us dinner and while we ate, he got the beach house #1 cleaned and ready for us so we could unpack and spend the night in the correct bungalow. We were tired, it was late, but it was all taken care of with amazing promptness and efficiency. Mornings, I practiced yoga on the beach while hubby cooked breakfast. We ate in the screened front porch with a stunning ocean view. Nicholl's Town was walking distance, although, nothing was open over the time frame we were visiting. One day Zona hooked us up with a car and we drove around exploring the island. We drove to Androsia and shopped at the Batick Factory. We also took advantage of moments of ok weather by taking bike rides around town and down to Conch Sound. Fun, easy bike ride. Oh, I forgot to mention the roads. All of the roads have been repaved thus making driving and bike riding incredibly easy.
We cooked almost all our own meals (Zona brought us dinner the first night and Christmas). The beach house was well equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen. Beach house #1 also has a washer/dryer. This came in useful as the intense wind and rain warranted a few loads of laundry to occur. WIFI was solid. We didn't watch TV but there was one in the house. We never at out as there wasn't one single place open in the 9 days we were there. Even with the bad weather and the lack of activities/fishing available, we had a romantic and restful Christmas vacation. Note: Avon Skin so Soft does NOT keep the no-see-ums from biting you. Bring something stronger.
