"The property is lovely but the hosts have everything set up so you are entirely dependent on them. We could not get our rental car to the property, even though they said a front wheel drive would be all right. If we needed a four wheel drive, they should have told us so we could rent one! So they would have to shuttle us any time we wanted to leave the property. The swimming pool was covered and we weren’t allowed to use it without asking them to take the cover off. There was a fire pit, but we couldn’t use it without asking them for wood. There was wifi, but only if we walked to their house and sat on their deck to use it. Etc. Etc. We specifically booked this place to be away from people and didn’t want to have to engage with our hosts for each and every move we made. Some people might like that, but we’re not those people. We paid a lot of money for six nights and had to leave after one night. We are not wealthy and had to rent another place “on the fly” and paid a premium to do so. Plus it was stressful and very upsetting (yes, there were tears) to learn that a listing that sounded so idyllic turned out to be quite traumatic for us. It would be very appreciated I’d we could receive a partial refund. We could not stay there because access to the property was misrepresented. We have used VRBO for other holidays but will be very careful if we decide to use again."

"Clean, courteous staff. Only feet from an extremely busy road- heavy truck and auto traffic. Only about half the vehicles seem to have effective mufflers!"

"The location is good - a quick Uber from the airport. CASH ONLY! But this is not a serious business: you can’t pay in advance, they only accept cash and you can’t pay with credit cards or international debit cards. There’s no ATM anywhere near, except in the airport terminal. It was fine in the end as I had about half the amount in cash and the reception staff let me pay the rest later (I was planning to go San Jose centre to get dinner anyway, and took out some cash there). NOT REALLY 24/7! So I had an early flight out of SJD and needed to leave the hotel at 5:30 AM. I didn’t think I needed to tell staff since this is a 24/7 hotel, I thought. First, all the doors in the courtyard were closed and I struggled to find which one led to the reception area (it was still dark). Finally I fumbled and opened the right door. The reception area was in complete darkness, and the door to the outside was locked!!! I was trapped inside the hotel. I called out but no one heard me. Thankfully, the outside door was locked with a chain and lock pad so I was able to squeeze my (small) hand between the doors and reach the buzzer. I finally heard a clanging door in the courtyard and the night staff came to open the door. He was very apologetic and kindly offered to drive me to the airport. In the end it all turned out alright, but come prepared for a bit of an adventure. I don’t think staff spoke very much English, so be prepared to navigate that adventure in Spanish. "
