About this property
502 W Robertson St. Memphis, TX · Converted Historic Jailhouse
This converted Historic Hall County Jailhouse has all the modern convenances of today's living amongst the early 1900's jailhouse remnants. This brick fortress of a structure is surrounded by an old iron fence. Inside you will find old iron gate, all the jail keys for decades past, even two jail cells with solid metal walls and door windows with bars. Hard to imagine all the stories that this building housed.
Upstairs you will find a big game room with ping pong, video arcade with many games, a pinball machine, darts, big screen TV, table and more. Be sure to check out the original article from the late 1800's about the state-of-the-art Jail Cage that used to be in the game room. Don't forget there is a pool table in the Hoosegow #1 out back.
You can park off the street in front or in the driveway on the side.

A fun and unique location in small town texas! Our family enjoyed the unique decor and historic jail house doors. Our kids spent lots of time playing with all the keys and finding ways to "escape" the jail cells. The game rooms provided some indoor fun as well!
we came to watch my nephew play baseball. The game got canceled because of a windstorm, which was pretty crazy. We still had an amazing time sitting around watching old movies enjoying each other‘s company.
Access to the property was easy and just as described in the communication from the owner. They’ve done a great job turning this into a Vrbo rental. You have everything that you need and of course all of the rooms were clean. I wish we had more time to enjoy it but we were downtown for an event. We plan to stay again. I think some friends that came by to see us plan to rent it later on as well. The only “complaint” is that we are used to a King bed
and these are smaller. It worked out though. Thanks for letting us stay! .

Really cool place, a few hiccups, but amazing communication
This was a very unique place to stay, it was fun. The town is an old town with not much going on, but Childress is not far so we went there for a couple dinners. Communication with the owner was very good. We had a couple issues when we first arrived, the owner was very good with communication and offered a refund (for the particular issue, not a big deal in the scheme of things) which was the right thing to do. He was easy to talk to and work with. We left the place extremely clean and had fun while staying there. It is so unique and fun. We were in town for The Valley of Tears gravel race in Turkey Texas, the drive was so easy and it was a co.fortable.place to come back to..
We came into town for a funeral and there aren’t many places to stay in Memphis! The old jail has been restored beautifully and is set up for a great place to hang out with family while in town! We will definitely book again! Property manager was very quick to respond when needed!
My dad and I had a great time in Memphis visiting with friends. The property was exactly as listed. We were comfortable in the surroundings and everything worked.
My husband and I and another couple were attending a music festival in the region and thought this place looked so fun. It is so well done-the upstairs rooms are converted cells-very cleverly done and very comfortable. The kitchen-the whole place-is very clean and nicely appointed. There are many amenities that we didn’t utilize but would be fun for a family with older kids. This is a darling place to stay! (Please note-‘the neighborhood’-Memphis-was not our destination, so I really can’t comment on that. We felt safe and comfortable in the Hall County Jail and that’s what was important for us!)
The home is fun. Needs some electrical issue updates. Lights flicker in kitchen when hot water is used. Needs more couch space for living room. Maybe turn the office into dining area and then living becomes bigger for people. Everything was clean and fun! Game room is a huge bonus!. Oh bathroom light is sensored so when your in taking a shower the light goes out after awhile. Scares ya at first. Then you have to lean out and wave your arm to trigger the light to come on again. 😆 One of the guest herd a harmonica playing and metal door shut upstairs..no one was up there. Not sure if He was messing around but he seemed serious.
I would stay here again
