Gather by the fire, relax, connect, and unwind in the utter peace and quiet of Big Sandy Lake. Decompress in the eight-person sauna, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights! If the Up North Winter Wonderland is your thing: ice fish on Big Sandy Lake, rent snowshoes at nearby Portage State Park, or explore the 600 miles of maintained snowmobile trails throughout Aiken County.
**On-premises parking for up to four vehicles and sled trailers!
Private, spacious, Big Sandy Lake retreat. Located on the “Gold Coast” of Big Sandy Lake, this cabin is the perfect getaway for friends and family. This chalet style cabin encompasses 3+ bedrooms, 2 baths, loft facing the lake, a sauna, 2 large and open living spaces, floor to ceiling windows and a very well appointed kitchen. There is plenty of space for 10 people to gather or find some privacy when needed. The cabin has over 100 feet of sandy beach shoreline, docks and a swim platform. There is a pontoon boat that is an optional rental as well; bring it up when booking if interested. Several fire pits on the property and all the wood you need for hanging by the fire making s’mores with the loved ones. Towering pines adorn the property with the rear of the cabin bringing in the resident eagles. Your likely to catch a glimpse of them while enjoying coffee on the wrap-around deck facing the lake.
Only 2-2.5 hours from the Twin Cities makes getting here a snap. There are several restaurants directly on Big Sandy, which you can boat to, and several other land-locked restaurants nearby. Groceries, gas, coffee shop, bakery, ice cream and the occasional “hardware” needs are within a few minutes drive.
Hiking, fishing (great Walleye and Northern lake – you can catch them right off the dock), ATV and Trail riding (bring your own), and all the water sports you can imagine; swimming, splashing, floating, kayaking, etc. When, and if your crew tires of water fun, we also have provided an assortment of lawn games, Corn Hole, Spike Ball, Ladder Ball, frisbees, etc. And, if the weather turns sour, we’ve got you covered with High-speed internet, a cozy indoor wood burning fireplace (with all the wood you need), in-floor radiant heat on the lower walk-out level, and ALL THE STREAMING services with a 70 inch tv and surround sound, a sweet little Sauna (again), and an assortment of board games and puzzles. Lastly, for golfers, Minnesota National Golf is just around the corner (10 min drive) and is an outstanding course bring all that Upper MN Golf has to offer.
It’s our deepest hope that anyone who books with us, wants for nothing, enjoys their stay, and leaves refreshed and more connected to those they shared the cabin with, than when they arrived.

We spent a long weekend at Cabin on the Hill with family and it was the perfect location! Big Sandy was beautiful and had plenty to do - fishing, swimming, kayaking, and restaurants and resorts within boating distance. The cabin was beautiful and well-stocked and made for the perfect home base. We will certainly be back!
House was very clean and we were welcomed with a super cute Welcome Basket. We basically stayed inside all weekend, as it was rainy all day and night. Plenty of seating at the table and in the livingroom. Kitchen was very cute and had everything we needed. Beds were comfy as well. Great place, would stay again and recommend to others! Thanks for having us!
Loved the location and the accommodations. We had 6 adults and 4 kids and everyone was comfortable inside and outside the home. Kids were able to catch fish from the dock, play on the lily pad and other water toys. Lower level was great space for kids to play while adults had space on main level. Kitchen was equipped with everything you may need. Hosts were very responsive to any questions we had. We had a great time and made memories that we will cherish.
Cabin was just as advertised! We loved the big wrap-around deck, the comfy beds, the pontoon & dock, coffee in the morning and having access to the water toys, sauna, games, and well-stocked kitchen. Access down to the lake was a little tough for my parents (in their mid 70's), but the rest of us had no issues with it. Would definitely recommend! The cabin is beautiful and hosts were easy to reach when needed.
Such a great time in this beautiful home on a blissfully quiet bay of Big Sandy. Wonderful, well-appointed kitchen, great outdoor spots for beach play, campfires, lawn games. We so appreciated the many small hospitality details- coffee mugs for early mordiendo by the water, lots of kids beach toys (and adult beach toys), a bottle of wine and fixings for s’mores to make everyone happy- really one of the best, most welcoming places our family (G&G, adult children and 2 young grandchildren) have stayed. Very much looking forward to coming back!!! Thank you so much!!!
Our stay was perfect! Absolutley beautiful cabin, gorgeous views of the lake, even had a bald eagle stop by and say hello in a nearby tree. Highly recommended!
We stayed at this gorgeous cabin with the family for a New Year and absolutely loved it. This house is beautiful, clean, and has everything you need for a weekend getaway with family/friends. Elliott was a fantastic and friendly host and answered all our questions promptly. Highly recommend this place and would love to come back!
The property was great for our yearly family get away. The house had everything we were looking for. The lake area and dock for fishing were perfect and got used very often. We spent one afternoon out on the boat which was also great. Would definitely consider coming back next year.
Our family had a wonderful time at this property. We fished, went kayaking, played on the Lilly pad, and had many camp fires. Renting was an easy proses.
We had a blast at the cabin! The location was awesome. It was super quiet. We took full advantage of the Lily Pad, and had a lot of fun on the pontoon. We spotted swans, loons, and 2 eagles right outside the windows of the cabin. We highly recommend two restaurants, McGregor Baking Company for delicious treats and sandwiches/salads, and The Craft House for anything on the menu. There were plenty of games and books for young kids, and paper/markers for creating artworks.
We had a truly wonderful stay at this cabin. The space was peaceful, well-kept, and perfect for creating memories with family. One of the highlights of our trip was hiking up to the Sandy Lake Fire Tower, which offered an unforgettable view of the surrounding nature. As an East African family, this type of retreat isn’t something we grew up with, but staying here allowed us to create new traditions together. The cabin gave us the perfect setting to laugh, relax, and connect in a way we’ll carry with us long after our trip.We are deeply grateful for the experience and would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a place to unwind, reconnect, and make lasting memories
Loved the cabin, location, view, and the pair of eagles that constantly roosted in a tall tree in front of the cabin. It was a great time for my wife and I, our two married children and spouse, and our two grandboys age 10. I grew up in the area, and it was a chance to show the children where and what Papa did when he was a boy.
My family stayed at House On the Hill for 1 week in August and we had a wonderful time. The house was very well appointed with everything we needed. There were ample towels, extra linens, and a fully stocked kitchen. We enjoyed the selection of indoor and outdoor games provided. We also made use of the the kayaks and pontoon out on the lake. We were delighted to share one of the backyard trees with a bald eagle that came back almost daily. We had many bonfires with smores. The hosts were very attentive to our needs and were easily reached. Overall, we had a great vacation. Thank you for being our host and sharing your beautiful lake cabin!
My family and I rented this cabin on the Fourth of July weekend. It was so much fun! The cabin had everything and anything you would need for your stay. Even waterproof cell phone covers! The pontoon was a lot of fun. The fireworks that are right in front of the cabin were amazing. We went out on the pontoon to wat h them. It was beautiful. So many boats. One of the best ways I have seen fireworks! Definitely would recommend. The owners were very easy to get a hold of and so nice. You won’t be disappointed when staying at this cabin.
Even though the weather didn’t cooperate we had a wonderful time. The cabin was perfect and the lake was beautiful. We enjoyed a fire with s’mores the night it didn’t rain and a boat ride when the sun came out!
We had a lovely stay at Jill & Elliott's property this summer. They were extremely helpful during booking & our stay, and made sure we had a wonderful time. The house is perfect for families/ friends to gather and have fun on the lake. The view from the main room is stunning & coffee/wine on the deck super relaxing! The pontoon rental was great, lots of water toys to enjoy, kayaks & life jackets, sand toys for the small bit of beach, and tons of games if it happens to rain. Great sandbar on the lake for our little ones to get out and splash around in. All around great stay!
Lovely house on nice lake. Great to have use of pontoon. We enjoyed using the kayaks every day. House was VERY well stocked. Makes going on vacation even more enjoyable! Owner was very responsive and helpful with issues. Only thing that should be noted is that the house is not on grade with the lake. There is a very steep trail from the house to the lake shore and dock. Overall, our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
