WORST hotel, ever!! The hotel is OLD, dirty, and it smells!! You can see the layers of paint on the walls and doors. I was given a room and the sink and bathtub were dirty with hair. There was NO body wash AT ALL. I used shampoo, and it was not enough for my 4 days there. At least they had a small Dove soap. The carpet is old & smelly. I was never notified at check-in that I was supposed to request the room to be cleaned. After calling the second day that I wanted it cleaned, still, nobody cleaned anything. The garbage was never removed and water and coffee were never replenished. I told the front desk that I needed water & towels one night, and the guy never showed up. NEVER. Don't bother with breakfast, go out instead. I thought I had paid extra when I booked it to get breakfast, nope. They charge you $15 for a mediocre buffet. Buffet is $15 & if you want something more like egg Benedict, it's another $15. It's a waste of money. While I waited to check-out, I tried getting coffee by the reception desk, well guess what. There was barely any for half a cup. Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Go elsewhere. Only good thing is the staff. They are all friendly. Shuttle bus driver is super friendly too.

Hotel room was not very clean, large ants were all over and while I appreciate that they let us change rooms, it just left a sour taste in my mouth for the hotel. Shower was also not very clean, and the second room we moved to had a leak coming from a hole in the ceiling to the shower. At that point we only had 1 more night and just let it be.

The rooms are super small and not clean. In the room we were the shower was super small. My partner is 6.1 and the shower head was by his chest. They never cleaned the room even when I requested it. The buffet breakfast is not worth the money.

The hotel itself is in an ideal location. I love the historic charm. The landscaping is just beautiful. Aside from this, the rooms are a bit outdated. They could be refreshed without losing the charm in my opinion. The bed was comfortable but the bedding was just okay. My sister’s room, booked at the same time was very warm. She was unable to reach the front desk and by morning she just decided to deal with it since we were only staying one night. The breakfast buffet was not included with our stay. It was reasonably priced and had a pretty good selection. The attendant was wonderful and very accommodating.

Love staying here for the energy and the location. The building is historic, well maintained, and has a resort feature even in the middle of downtown McAllen. I love getting a room with a poolside balcony so that I can wake up to the fountain in the courtyard and listen to the palm trees in the wind. Breakfast is, generally speaking, a regular situation but I recommend going across the street to Nerve or down the street to Staccato for coffee. At night there's Roosevelts or Nopalito's all within walking distance to go enjoy. The staff is always amiable and helpful, and the rooms are comfy and familiar. I come back to this hotel time and time again.
