When we checked in, we found that the property was not as described. The issue was not the work at the dock indicated in the listing, but the fact that the entire street in the front was teared apart and covered in a whitish dust that would not even come off from the rental car mats, no street lights so flashlights were needed at night, a pile of sand and machinery right in front, and no heater for the three days we stayed (4 booked). Due to a severe cold front, inside the house it was never above 61, much cooler at night. The host agreed to let us leave earlier and reduce the daily rate for the three days we stayed. After we returned home, I followed up with host who had not responded to two emails, to inquire about the refund. After 4 more unanswered emails, an VrBo agent called him and put me on the line so I could speak with him. He said he did the accounting at the end of each month, something he could have answered in one sentence from the beginning. When he processed the refund, the refund was short by $50 and did not include the tax portion. I contacted him and he responded that he will check with VrBo. 10 days later I still haven’t received a response from him after sending another 3 text messages. This behavior is not only unprofessional and against VrBo etiquette, but plain rude. In sum, a terrible experience both with the property and especially with the host. I will never book this rental again and I do not recommend it based on our experience.
