4 Bed, 3 Bath Loft in Downtown Louisville! Amazing River Views! Private Deck!

  • The rich and unique story of the Normandy building certainly adds to the enchanting character of the structure. Constructed in the early-mid 1800s, according to legend, the Normandy was originally a brothel and saloon before it was purchased by Mike Garvey and "rebranded" as Garvey’s Hotel in 1871. In 1884 Mr. Garvey sold his hotel to T.H. Thierman, 'the whiskey man', who restored and then gave the building its present name of the Normandy Hotel.

Also, for all you Bill Murray fans out there, if you as may recognize some of the interior suites as the initial "apartment" scenes from the infamous movie 'Stripes', partially filmed inside the Normandy building back in 1981.

The Normandy Loft offers 2200 Sq. Ft. for Louisville activities and events. At the corner of N. 7th and Washington Street, you are within blocks of the Louisville Slugger Museum, The Center for the Arts, the Muhammad Ali Center, YUM Center, Kentucky International Convention Center and the Urban Bourbon Trail. You will find all the amenities of home in addition to a lengthy gallery balcony and upper deck with a vast view of the Ohio River and the Louisville cityscape.

Beautiful loft near Whiskey Row. Comfortable beds and beautiful bathrooms. We were able to walk easily to restaurants and some distilleries. Only negatives were a complicated check in process due to the set up of the building, and one of the 4 beds listed was a sofa bed. It was very difficult for the people staying upstairs to lug their suitcases up a spiral staircase, some just left them downstairs. Would definitely stay here again. I would recommend that the host get more bath towels for the 3 showers. We didn’t have enough for everyone.

This is a great unit in downtown Louisville. The listing says 4 BR, but it's actually three. The fourth "bedroom" is a loft space open to the first floor with a pullout futon couch. This detail did not take away from our fun weekend, but it just meant that one of us didn't get a true bedroom. The area around the loft is not the most vibrant area - you'll need to walk or scoot to the action, which is about a mile away in NuLu. Whiskey Row is about a half mile away. Needless to say, the best distilleries and tours are further flung in Bardstown and Lexington. This was a great home base for our weekend getaway!
