Long Wharf Park

Long Wharf Park
Find this lovely park along the shoreline and enjoy many exciting tourist attractions in Cambridge. It’s a pleasant spot for a fun day outdoors.

Long Wharf Park runs along the beautiful Choptank River. Here you will discover many interesting sites of the city, including the historic Choptank River Lighthouse and the Cambridge Marina. Have lunch at the picnic tables and take panoramic photos of the river. Go fishing or sailing on a Chesapeake Bay skipjack, the famous boat typical of the area’s watercraft.

Enjoy Cambridge’s picturesque fishing village atmosphere when you wander through Long Wharf Park. See the many little fishing boats working on the river, as well as beautiful sailboats, fast power boats, skipjacks and even paddle steamers. If you arrive at the right time you can buy fresh seafood, such as oysters and crabs, directly from the fishermen. Go for a sail on the Nathan, the last of the bay's skipjacks built to be a dredge boat. It’s still owned, operated and maintained by volunteers from the nonprofit Dorchester Skipjack Committee. The adventure lets you experience the skipjack heritage of Maryland's Eastern Shore as you sail on the lovely waters of the Choptank River and dredge for oysters.

While you are visiting Long Wharf Park, stop off at the Cambridge Yacht Club, a fantastic spot in the city for boating and dining. Explore the bay aboard one of its weekend cruises and raft-ups (nautical slang term meaning social gathering). Enjoy fine cuisine and cocktails with waterfront dining and panoramic views of the river. In winter, warm up next to the fire in the relaxing lounge area of the club.

Discover the Choptank River Lighthouse, a beautiful replica of a historic lighthouse. Take photos of this picturesque hexagonal cottage-style construction and step inside to learn more about the area’s maritime heritage. Visit its small museum to see interesting photos and maritime artifacts. During some weekends you may meet the helpful volunteer lighthouse keepers.

Find Long Wharf Park near High Street and Water Street along the Choptank River. Enjoy an exciting day in one of Cambridge’s most famous attractions.
