The property itself is beautiful, bit like a maze, got lost a few times! Staff were mostly helpful, there was a holding fee of £50 when we arrived which was unexpected as wasn't told when we booked. Also booked a room with 2 double beds and called ahead before we arrived to make sure that was the case, when we arrived, it wasn't the case so then had to change rooms! Then the TV in our room wasn't working and that usually wouldn't worry me but but the others on my room has theatre reservations so I was having a cozy night in. We called down for some help with this and a gentleman did try and help but was unsuccessful and said he would speak to maintenance and that was it, heard no more, I did call down again to ask if anything was being done and was told they would ask but yet again, nothing, so had no TV all evening on my own.

We are used to mattresses in the states that are foam. This was like an interspring. Not comfortable. They added another mattress pad. Didnt work. The staff tho were amazing and friendly. We sincerely appreciated that. Kudos to their helpful nature

Perfect location. 10-15 min walk from Victoria Station, Elizabeth Tower/ Big Ben, and the Eye. The surrounding area of the hotel was quaint and safe. The hotel was clean, well air conditioned, and had friendly staff. Would stay here again.

The room we got assigned did not have AC, was offered an extra fan to help with air circulation in the room but that was of no help, the room is advertised in Expedia with AC, it does not have any, it was very hot during the day and night. Very bad humidity smell when you get inside the room, we had stuffy noses by the end of our stay. Front desk staff is subpar to say the least, they looked confused by simple questions, two of the girls that helped in the front were very unfriendly, not sure of all the good reviews, but this hotel is not it.

The Rochester is under renovation, it's a bit dusty and quite noisy (hammering and drilling). I had the room 036, and it's in the basement level, and the AC in that room doesn't work, which makes it quite uncomfortable for the majority of my stay due to quite a few warmer days. The first staff that came to check keep saying he can feel the AC (it was blowing warm air or room temp air, but definitely not cold air), I had to tell him to feel the AC in the hotel lobby to understand how the air in the room was actually warm, very frustrating and infuriating. Then the front desk suggested to keep the thermostat at 20 or 21, tried both for hours and didn't work, the staffs ultimately send 2 fans into my room to make it more bearable. The hotel overall is not bad, situated in a decent and quiet location, but just not when it's under renovation, and definitely don't stay at room 036 during the summer.
