Escape to your own private woodland retreat in the beautiful Ceiriog Valley, near Llangollen.

Mellow Mountain is a characterful 16th-century eco cottage set within approximately three acres of private woodland, combining historic Welsh charm with an unusual collection of outdoor experiences. The entire retreat is exclusively yours during your stay – ideal for family gatherings, celebrations, walking weekends and relaxed escapes with friends.

The cottage sleeps up to 10 within four bedrooms, with additional glamping accommodation in an 18ft Sioux-style tipi. Maximum occupancy across the retreat is 12 guests.

Your Private Woodland Retreat

Step outside and you'll find woodland paths, wildflowers, mature oak trees, secluded grassy areas and panoramic views across the Ceiriog Valley.

At the heart of the outdoor space is our large wood-fired hot tub, where you can soak beneath the trees and stars. There's also a wood-fired sauna, elevated yoga deck with beautiful valley views, woodland fire pit and a tucked-away BBQ area for long evenings cooking and eating outdoors.

The tipi sits in its own tranquil woodland setting and has a stove, creating a memorable glamping experience for guests who want to get even closer to nature.

A glass-roofed conservatory provides a wonderful communal dining space whatever the weather.

The Cottage

Dating back to the 16th century, the cottage has been restored with an emphasis on natural materials and traditional character.

Inside you'll find lime-plastered walls, exposed oak beams, natural stone and slate floors, solid-oak windows and doors, brass and oak beds and an open fire.

The house combines its historic character with eco-conscious heating and energy systems, including solar and wind-generated electricity, underfloor heating, eco radiators and wood-fired hot-water systems.

Bedrooms

Bedroom 1 – Elevated wooden double bunk with a double bed beneath, panoramic valley views, slate floor, lime walls, exposed oak beams, ensuite wet room and its own private entrance. Sleeps 3–4.

Bedroom 2 – Double brass bed with lime walls and a skylight looking into the trees – wonderful for watching the moon and stars from bed. Sleeps 2.

Bedroom 3 – Antique double brass bed with beautiful views across the valley. Sleeps 2.

Bedroom 4 – Double bedroom within a characterful converted stable. Sleeps 2.

Woodland Tipi – 18ft Sioux-style tipi with four camping beds available. Guests using the tipi should bring sleeping bags.

There is also a day bed in the lounge and a spare camp bed. Maximum occupancy for the entire retreat is 12 guests.

Bathrooms

The downstairs ensuite has a wet-room-style walk-in shower, brass basin and taps and a traditional Victorian-style high-level toilet.

Upstairs you'll find one of the cottage's most unusual features – a wet room incorporated into an old chimney breast, surrounded by stone walls and marble flooring.

Kitchen & Living

The kitchen includes a traditional wood-burning Rayburn, halogen hob, double electric oven, Belfast sink with brass taps, fridge and toaster.

Gather around the open fire in the cottage, dine beneath the glass roof of the conservatory or take dinner outside to the woodland BBQ and fire-pit areas.

Three Acres to Explore

Mellow Mountain is about spending time outdoors.

The retreat extends across approximately three acres of private woodland and gardens, with mature trees, seasonal bluebells, wildflowers, unusual shrubs and several peaceful areas to sit, explore or simply disappear into nature.

The elevated yoga deck enjoys far-reaching views and is equally suited to morning yoga, reading with a coffee or watching the evening light over the valley.

Hikers and walkers have wonderful countryside on the doorstep, while Llangollen and the surrounding Dee and Ceiriog valleys provide countless opportunities for walking, cycling and exploring North Wales.

And despite the secluded atmosphere, you're not cut off from civilisation.

The Swan Inn is approximately a five-minute walk away, while The Mulberry is around 15 minutes on foot, both offering excellent food.

An Experience, Not Just Somewhere to Sleep

Mellow Mountain is deliberately different from a conventional holiday cottage.

Light the sauna. Fire up the hot tub. Cook outside. Gather around the fire. Sleep beneath canvas. Walk through the woods. Have breakfast under glass and watch the stars from bed.

It's particularly suited to families and groups of friends looking for their own private place to reconnect, celebrate and enjoy the outdoors together.

Good to Know

All cottage bed linen is provided and changed between stays. Guests sleeping in the tipi should bring their own sleeping bags.

The hot tub and sauna are wood-fired and form part of the hands-on woodland experience. Wood deliveries can be arranged in advance, or guests are welcome to bring suitable firewood.

The property contains natural woodland, uneven ground, rough terrain and steep banks. It may therefore not be suitable for guests with limited mobility or particular accessibility requirements.

A refundable litter bond may be charged, as guests are required to leave the site clear of rubbish.

Check-in is from 4:00pm and check-out is by 10:00am.
