Just a great home base for visiting Portland

The room was to be cleaned with fresh towels only by noon of the second day…didn’t happen. The TV never did work properly and no instructions on its operation. Just not what I thought the hotel would deliver

I have stayed here before, and this most recent stay was disappointing. Check-in was 4:00, but my room wasn't ready until almost 5:30. When I did get my room, it was MUCH smaller than my previous stay. With a historic hotel, you expect some rustic charm, but old-charm vs disrepair and lack of thorough cleaning are different. The bathroom was problematic. The shower head sprayed in several directions, getting the window ledge next to it wet because the shower curtain didn't close all the way. The sink had zero counter space and the glass shelf next to it was loose. While trying to get ready for an event, my hair and makeup products kept sliding into the sink and/or tilting the shelf backwards. It was very frustrating. The mirrors were situated where neither were helpful for anything other than looking straight at myself and there were no hand or full-length mirrors. The back of the door, which hit the toilet, had peeled paint and you could see discolored, rotting wood. When I wanted coffee in the morning, I had to wheel the cart it was on to a place where I could plug it in (the bathroom). When doing so, I noticed that the cart itself was very dusty except for the front that is visible when casually inspecting. The bottom of the cart was thick with dust as was the back portion of the desk/dresser top. I really like the charm of the older, boutique hotels, but this stay just wasn't great. It served its purpose, but it was also a bit of a bummer.

Parking was difficult. Spaces were narrow and one lot was very steep. The lot below the A building meant hauling your bags up stairs . The air conditioning fan was very loud but at least it worked. The handicapped shower was not laid out well, In that I couldn't sit in the shower chair facing the water controls and reach the bath gel and shampoo behind me. The clothes hooks on the bathroom door were too high for someone in a wheelchair to reach. There was no usable bathroom counter space. We could hear the people above us too loudly I did appreciate the complimentary Japanese Garden tickets.
