Totally worth the stay if you're okay with staying a little outside the main city. This place offers traditional Japanese plus Western style rooms. It had all the necessary amenities for s luxurious experience.
Such a cozy place to stay on our trip to Kyoto, the beds were comfortable and the staff (Sonoe and Hiro) were so kind. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area.
Owner gave me a ride from and to the train station. Gave me a good recommendation of many good places around kyoto. I am considering revisiting this inn later.
We decided to book this hotel because it had a lot of positive reviews and we could get a nice 32m2 room for half of the price of what we could get in Kyoto (Gion\ Higashiyama area) during the cherry blossom season. The hotel is only a 5 mins walk from Nagaokakyo station , which is a 20/25 mins train ride to Kyoto Kawaramchi station and 11 minutes ride to Kyoto station. It is based in a Japanese residential area with very little tourism. However, if you do not mind travelling a little, this is a really convenient place to visit both Kyoto and Osaka. We also had a great time venturing in a couple of Izakayas around the hotel. Staff did not speak English, but they really made an effort to make sure we had a great experience and amazing food.
The owners speak perfect English and are lovely, helpful and they will try to accommodate any type of requests you may have.
I would definitely recommend this place if you do not mind staying outside of Kyoto or Osaka city center.
A bit outside of Kyoto but very worth the slight extra work to get here. It is only a 20 minute train ride to Kyoto Station. We have relatives in Kyoto and have stayed here on three trips over the last 7 years. The rooms with multiple beds and futon are spacious and bright, with lots of storage, electrical/charging outlets, fun tatami sitting/work area, kitchenette, dual bathroom sinks, and roomy shower. Great for family groups staying together. The self-serve laundry is a bonus for light travelers. The Japanese style furo (bath) onsite is fun and relaxing (small extra charge). We have had the privilege of being hosted by the founders who are fluent in English and understand the finer points of the hospitality industry. Unparalleled attention to detail and service!
Nagaokakyo itself has some nice sites, activities and events. The inn is close to convenience stores and local restaurants, as well. We are a well traveled family all over the world---one of the best experiences by far for lodging!
Dont write reviews often but this was a great stay. Owners are so personable and very detailed oriented. This level of hospitality was refreshing and enjoyed 2 peaceful nights. Highly recommend!
It's beyond words for telling our satisfaction of the Kyoto Guest Inn Nagaokakyo. Perhaps this is the best Inn we ever visited during our numerous tours around the world. Hiro and Sonoe are such a pair of wonderful hosts who look after at every details of our visit, from picking us up at the train station and dropping us off every time we went out. The place is super clean and well organized. All the little decors are carefully chosen and give us a sense of refreshing. Sonde's direction for our day trips are so accurate and precise that we never get lost in such a big city. I have to emphasis that their breakfast are extraordinary, no matter if it's continental or Japanese. Everybody should try this when staying there. Although the house is over 100 years old, but it has been carefully redesigned and renovated to meet the highest quality as a 5 stars hotel. Hiro and Sonoe speak very good English, so there's no communication problem like other places in Japan. Our stay was just too short, so we already made plans to return to this gem in Nagaokokyo and stay longer this time to enjoy this quint little town.
The host couple can speak fluent English, and they are sincere and very caring to the guests to every details.
The guest inn is modern and in very good condition. A lift is even installed to be convenient for guests with heavy luggages.
