Waterside cottage in a magical setting on the Salcombe Estuary (sleeps 6)
Pipers Cottage is a beautiful rustic creekside property, perfectly positioned in a picture postcard setting on the west side of the Salcombe/Kingsbridge Estuary. It is only a 2 minute drive from the pretty waterside town of Kingsbridge with its many shops, pubs and restaurants and just a 5 minute drive from fashionable Salcombe with its fabulous golden beaches. For the slightly more adventurous both Salcombe/East Portlemouth and Kingsbridge can be accessed by boat or kayak from the front of the cottage! In addition, the cottage is really well positioned in the South Hams to access, not only the beaches of Salcombe, but many more favourites such as Bantham, Bigbury, Thurlestone, South Milton all approximately a 10 minute drive from the cottage door. Historic Dartmouth is just a short drive in the opposite direction along what must be one of the most spectacular coastal routes in the country, with many more fabulous beaches en route, including, Beesands, Slapton and the award winning Blackpool Sands. However if you do not want to venture far from the cottage there are enough things to do around the property to keep adults and children happy for days: Relax on the loungers on the sun drenched terrace; Sit on the Jetty with a coffee or a glass of wine watching the kids play in the creek and if you're lucky spot the resident Kingfishers fishing as the tide slowly comes in bringing with it our friendly pair of swans. At low tide it is possible to walk a fair distance along the creek on the shingle bed (avoid the mud) and see the clam beds and a huge variety of birdlife feeding on small crabs and shellfish. Finally, a rowing boat (4.4 meters) and two kayaks are available on request; great for pottering around on the creek at high tide. Please note that because of the steps leading up to the property our cottage may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.

A beautiful cottage right next to a creek. A perfect place for a peaceful stay. A very welcoming, homely and stylish cottage with everything you will need. The owners were so helpful with great advice about where to visit.
Everything was simply perfect. It all started with our outstanding landlords Rob and Sian, who were so warm, welcoming, easy to contact and gave so many helpful recommendations. We loved Pipers Cottage and the surrounding landscape from the very beginning. The cottage is decorated in such a homely way and well equipped, especially the kitchen. Due to the weather, we didn't see many beaches but found many other wonderful things to do for example we enjoyed our walks to Salcombe. Thank you again for everything!
The location here is beautiful and so quiet (except for the occasional farming). You can hear the birds all the time (and I don't mean annoying seagulls). It's a lovely atmosphere. Lots of room in the house, although the stairs are pretty tight for old people (we took our elderly parents). The house was very musty when we first arrived and we had to ventilate it for 2 days before the smell went, but apparently we were the first people to have rented this in 9 months. It seemed find after that, but if you are sensitive to this then it may affect you. I was dosed on large amounts of antihistamines every night.
The beaches nearby (all within 30-60 minutes of driving down very tight lanes). Almost all beaches have dogs, so you have to work to avoid them. Beautiful part of the country though.
Had a fabulous week staying in Piper Cottage, extremely comfortable and clean accommodation with the bonus of a lovely terrace and proximity to the creek. Beautiful part of the world, would definitely stay again.
We enjoyed our week staying at Pipers, which is in a delightful and peaceful setting and furnished with taste and quality. It is well placed to visit the South Hams district: Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth plus all the surrounding coastline. You definitely need a car to make the most of the location and be prepared to reverse very frequently in the narrow lanes. The owners kept good contact but were not intrusive.
Peaceful creekside cottage. Owners Rob and Sian very helpful and responded immediately to any queries we had. Kitchen very well equipped. Comfy beds. We ate our meals on terrace in front of cottage every evening when the weather allowed. Well located for local beaches, Hope Cove, Bigbury on sea, Salcombe all within easy reach, although the very narrow lanes can be somewhat hair raising when having to reverse to allow other traffic to pass!

Fabulous cottage located in quiet waterside location. Everything was a very high standard. A perfect holiday spot with boundless opportunities to explore the area or just chill.
Wonderfully located on a tidal creek, very quiet and picturesque surroundings close to the town of Kingsbridge. Owner has a rowing boat which is available for use moored at the property. Fantastic!
Pipers Cottage was perfect for us - 8 people (4 adults and 4 children) and the accommodation was so well suited to our needs. The beds were super comfortable - we all slept soundly each night in our bedrooms and the downstairs was also very spacious. But the highlight was the use of the boat and kayaks when the tide came in the Creek. Rob and Sian (the owners) were so kind and thoughtful during our stay and even offered us a free extra night at the end of our week long rental and a late checkout (knowing how logistically tricky it can be to leave at 10am with children!) Thank you so much Rob and Sian.I cannot recommend Pipers Cottage more - the location and aspect are really special.
Pipers Cottage is a delightful holiday property. The cottage is perfect and the location idyllic. The quality of accommodation is excellent, well equipped and with a lovely terrace and garden. The opportunity to use a rowboat on the creek was a real treat. We have been renting holiday properties for over 30 years, going back to the pre internet days of the Lady! This is easily one of the best we have ever stayed in.

Disappointing
Communication with the owners was excellent. Unfortunately several of our group have mobility issues and accessing the property was very difficult. The property information indicated that you accessed the property via steps but they are very steep with no handrail
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pipers Cottage. The location is superb with very easy access to Kingsbridge, Salcombe and many other fantastic beaches/towns/restaurants in the area. It’s positioned away from the hustle and bustle of a town, but with easy access to good amenities in Kingsbridge.
The setting of the cottage is simply picturesque with views across to the creek and surrounding farmland. We loved using our paddle boards in the creek which really is a stones throw from the house. We saw many birds and fish, none of which I can name but great to see. We also sat on the small jetty with a glass of wine… highly recommended! I imagine this would make a wonderful holiday for a family with kids as they can splash around in the sheltered creek and see the wildlife.
The house itself is very well appointed. Again, I imagine it would be good for a family with kids given the two bathrooms, playroom and decent sized bedrooms. For just myself and my wife, we had ample space. We cooked in the kitchen most evenings which all worked very well. The lounge was comfortable for my wife and I but perhaps seating a little limited if there were kids.
It’s also worth mentioning that the home owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. For example, he provided excellent restaurant recommendations over the phone plus tips around tide times in the area.
If you were to push me to find fault, in an ideal world there are a few things around the property that could do with a bit of updating, primarily the upstairs bathroom which looks a little tired. The back garden was also quite overgrown and it would’ve been nice to have used this. However, having said this we enjoyed our stay so much we’ve already enquired about booking to stay again!
I’m conclusion, this is a wonderful place for a holiday, setup very well for a family or couple and in a stunning part of the world. I highly recommend.
Beautiful home in an amazing location. Well equipped and cosy house with super comfy beds, well equipped kitchen and plenty of entertaining space. The terrace is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the wonderful views, the children loved roaming in the back garden picking blackberries and crabbing in the creek. A truly relaxing stay, we loved it.
Beautiful Devon country cottage five minutes from Kingsbridge
Spent a gorgeous week at this spacious cottage with family in June. The property is in great decorative order, the bedrooms are cosy and quiet, and the terrace to the front is a wonderful evening suntrap to unwind on a summers evening. Beaches, towns and amenities all within a short drive.
We had the most wonderful week at the cottage. Beautiful peaceful setting but so close to Salcombe. The children loved crabbing off the boat in the mornings and after dinner, we loved sitting outside drinking gin and tonics! Everything was perfect and utterly charming, so excited to stay again in the Summer.
We had a lovely week with beautiful weather - so lucky. Such a peaceful spot & although the tides were not right to use the boat we had a really relaxing break revisiting much loved spots. Thank you Rob & Sian.
Amazing creek side family cottage, close to local amenities and very well appointed for a family holiday with small children. The owners were incredibly helpful and easily contactable, adding personal recommendations for the local area. Our older children loved crab fishing off the bridge and jetty.
We had a lovely stay at the cottage, Rob and Sian provided everything we needed and were so helpful with information. We took the boat out every day which the kids loved. We also caught lots of crabs from the creek bridge which was lots of fun. The surrounding area has so much to offer and we were spoilt for choice with beaches. We hope to return one day and would really recommend this cottage/location. Thank you!
We could not have been luckier with our week at Pipers Cottage - we had a week of sunshine and shimmering heat, so that all the outside spaces became an extension of the house. We moved from jetty, to terrace, to back garden for our evening aperitif, with occasional respite in the sitting room to escape the heat. The aesthetic of the inside and outside spaces was really lovely and in keeping with the setting - pared back and natural but extremely comfortable. We loved using the boat during high tide, but were equally happy sitting on the jetty watching the bird life and revelling in the peace.
We didn’t travel around much, it was too hot to walk far, but absolutely loved swimming at South Milton Sands and then retreating to the Beach House for delicious seafood lunches overlooking the Mediterranean blue of the sea.
Rob was delightful to deal with - helpful and considerate and friendly,
We’d love to return some time.
Creekside Cottage - Beautiful location and lovely area to explore
This charming cottage is positioned at the end of Collapit Creek, the small road passing by ensures low levels of traffic enabling you to un-wind whilst sitting out on the patio overlooking the creek and wildlife therein. Accessing the property was very easy and the host checked in on us to ensure we were enjoying our stay and make sure we were not having any issues. The house is well equipped and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage.
The property can only be accessed by steps, we had one of our elderly parents with us who had no problem, but be aware that anyone requiring special access, this is probably not the holiday cottage for you.
Beautiful area to stay. It was so peaceful. Did not use the boat as the weather was so good and spent our daytimes on the local beaches. Comfortable beds and nice bed linen. Nice touch of cookies on arrival. Easy to get into Kingsbridge for supermarkets and restaurants.
A wonderful cottage in an idyllic spot on the creek
We’ve enjoyed an amazing relaxing week at Pipers Cottage. The cottage is very well equipped and has a lovely sunny but private terrace which over looks the creek. We also enjoyed sunny evenings on the hill in the back garden. The weather was amazing, and we were lucky with the tide times and were able to take our canoe and Roly the rowing boat out on the creek most days. It’s such a peaceful and tranquil place we felt very lucky.
Kingsbridge is a short drive away and has a couple of big supermarkets (Tesco and Morrison’s) so it is well served.
Rob was a fantastic host and very communicative. He recommended a number of local eateries - which I was able to booked in advance (well worth doing - but do also consider tide times as you won’t want to book a table when high tide is due as you miss your opportunity to go out on the water!). Our favourite place was the Gara Rock Hotel followed by a walk down to the beach. Lots of amazing beaches within a drive from the cottage - all seemed to involve driving down incredibly narrow lanes so be warned ! But well worth the effort.
We’d love to return to Pipers Cottage again - such a special place - thank you again
